by AEW Fright Night Dynamite took place live from CSU in Cleveland last night at the Wolstein Center. While we won’t cover the entire show, here are the parts of it that stood out the most to us that we found worthy of attaching a grade too.
Private Party defeating The Young Bucks to obtain the AEW Tag Titles
Grade – B
While the match may have went a tad too long, it was time to put PP over. Also, this opens the door for an Elite Face turn, which will then lead to them taking on the BCC in a battle for the company. It was only a matter of time before this occurred. How PP will do with the titles long term, is anyone’s guess. They were just on the lowly watched Rampage shows and now we have to take them serious. This should be interesting to see how it turns out for them.
Adam Cole defeats Buddy Murphy
Grade – D
This match was far too long and Adam Cole is a horrible babyface. I can tell you right now that this push will continue to fail miserably. I spent half the match wondering if Rhea Ripley was there backstage or at the hotel, or at home. This did little to nothing to hold my interest and when it takes Adam Cole 5 superkicks just to bring Murphy to his knees, it tells me everything I need to know. This match stunk!
The fact that AEW fans chant “Holy Shit” when Malicki Black showed up post fight was beyond lame. Do these fans just cheer at anything? Black has been with the company for years and has also done little to nothing in his time there.
Promos from Chris Jericho, Hangman Page and Orange Cassidy
Grade A
All were solid and I LOVE this new attitude and persona from Orange Cassidy. He has proven he is a main event player. He wont take the title off of Moxley, but I still absolutely love this angle! Jericho remains one of the best heels in the business and fun to boo or cheer, while Page needs a bigger push back on top and this feud with Switchblade Jay White may get him there.
Kris Statlander defeated Kamille
Grade A
A solid match saw the heel in position to secure the win late following a failed 450 splash from Statlander. Instead, the babyface fought back and earned the victory to the disappointment of Moné. I like where this latest incarnation of Statlander is going, as quite frankly her heel turn made little to zero sense. Again, I see Mone keeping the title when they scrap, but still a good little push for now.
Bobby Lashley shows up to help Shelton Benjamin deliver a beatdown to Swerve Strickland.
Grade F
Weak pop from the crowd who seemed to be exhausted after a grueling match. Also, this will do nothing for Bobby Lashley’s legacy as AEW has proven they have zero clue on how to use real athletes and big men. This too, will flop hard.
