The Feature matches
Cody Rhodes vs Anthony Ogogo
Previews – Immediate props to Anthony Ogogo for having one of the coolest last names I have ever heard. Rhodes has shown he doesn’t mind losing on PPV if it means getting over a young talent. However, a few things to consider here.
First, last night was the first time AEW got full fan reaction to some of their newer talents, one of them being Ogago and he got zero reaction. I’m talking you could hear a pin drop and the entire weigh in segment went over like a wet fart in church. Is it the fault of QT Marshall who absolutely bombed or is there more to it?
Secondly, Cody is being called “The American Dream” for one weekend only, and it just happens to be Memorial Day weekend. Do you really think it would be smart for him to lose?
Prediction – Rhodes
Hangman Page vs Brian Cage
Preview – The seeds of dissent in Team Taz have been planted for awhile now. I firmly believe that Cage is a breakout star in AEW and needs to break away from Team Taz asap. This weekends match will be the next step in that transition away from Team Taz.
My guess is that Cage will stop help from Starks, Hobbes and Hook, ultimately causing him to lose the match. Out of frustration, Team Taz will turn on him and the breakup will be complete. Cage has been a member of Team Taz for a year and has lost every big match he has been in ever since. The time for change is now.
Prediction – Hangman Page
Sting & Darby Allin vs Scorpio Sky & Ethan Page
Preview – It is time to push Page to the moon. He has all the talent in the world and Sting and Allin are already way over and don’t need the win. While the eyes may be on Sting, Allin and Sky in this match, I’m going to be focusing on Page.
Sting has done little to nothing but cheerlead thus far since showing up in December. While I’m excited that Sting is going to have his first match in a ring in years, he adds little to nothing to this feud. The one thing AEW has done extremely well with their legends Arn Anderson, Sting, Jake Roberts and Tully Blanchard is kept them out of the ring.
Prediction – Page and Sky
Casino Battle Royal
Preview – Out of all the gimmick matches AEW has invented since forming, this is by far one of the best. As usual 20 of the 21 entrants have been announced, and you can count on number 21 being the final entrant, and thus the mystery surprise.
A very small part of me hopes it is an Impact guy, and thus finally allowing someone from that company to get over on anyone from AEW, but the chances of that are slim to none. Christian seems like the heavy favorite and that would set up for a great match between him and Omega down the road.
Winner – Christian
