In the end, there just wasn’t a strong enough connection with Ariel, and she was sent home. Quite frankly, it never appeared to be there between the two, as they both seemed to be going through the motions for several weeks now.
He could have sent her home weeks ago, but I strongly feel he just wanted to get her to the overnight date and see if a spark would arise, or anything would “rise” for that matter. Alas, it just wasn’t enough, and the final two is now set with Gabi and Kaity.
