A Tribute To Rosemarie DeLuca: The Matriarch Of A Dynasty

From tears of joy to tears of incredible pain.  It was just this Tuesday night at her bedside, that Joe DeLuca told a story that made the entire room burst out in laughter, only to be followed by powerfully sorrowful tears.

For years Grandpa Joe would steal the room telling funny stories, and wise remarks one after another as a two-minute pre meal prayer turned into a twenty-minute showcase of love and family.  At the end of every story he would say, “remember Ro?”

You see, “Ro” was his wife of 66 years and the Matriarch of the Dynasty known as the DeLuca Family.  66 years of marriage. 19 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and endless love and pride.  This time, it wasn’t the table that Grandpa ended the story with “Right Ro?”.  It was at her bedside, as she was taking her last breaths.  He told a story and ended it the same way he always did, only this time Grandma would not answer.

Rosemarie Deluca would make it through Tuesday as more than 85% of her family sat at her bedside taking turns weeping over her body.  In my mind, her soul was already in heaven at that point.  Wednesday would be the last day her body would spend on this earth, but after 84 years on it, she had created a legacy that would last forever.  To better understand it, let’s start at the beginning.

  1. I am so very sorry for the great loss to your family. You wrote such a beautiful description of the life of a very beautiful lady. Our world could use more “homemakers” like her because ladies like this didn’t just nurture and care for our earthly homes but created and cared for homes here on Earth that were as near to our Heavenly home as they could possibly be. Homes filled with love. “And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love; but the greatest of these is love” 1 Corinthians 13:13
