A Tribute To Rosemarie DeLuca: The Matriarch Of A Dynasty

From tears of joy to tears of incredible pain.  It was just this Tuesday night at her bedside, that Joe DeLuca told a story that made the entire room burst out in laughter, only to be followed by powerfully sorrowful tears.

For years Grandpa Joe would steal the room telling funny stories, and wise remarks one after another as a two-minute pre meal prayer turned into a twenty-minute showcase of love and family.  At the end of every story he would say, “remember Ro?”

You see, “Ro” was his wife of 66 years and the Matriarch of the Dynasty known as the DeLuca Family.  66 years of marriage. 19 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and endless love and pride.  This time, it wasn’t the table that Grandpa ended the story with “Right Ro?”.  It was at her bedside, as she was taking her last breaths.  He told a story and ended it the same way he always did, only this time Grandma would not answer.

Rosemarie Deluca would make it through Tuesday as more than 85% of her family sat at her bedside taking turns weeping over her body.  In my mind, her soul was already in heaven at that point.  Wednesday would be the last day her body would spend on this earth, but after 84 years on it, she had created a legacy that would last forever.  To better understand it, let’s start at the beginning.

What a beautiful tribute to an amazing woman.
I got the chance to sit at a family get together with your grandparents. He told so many stories as your grandmother gazed at him with loving eyes and a huge smile as we all laughed around the patio table.
Your Grandmother was a remarkable lady and welcomed me with open arms as the rest of your family did.
I will truly miss her..she definetly made a loving impression and touched my heart in a very special way.

  14. Vince, thank you so much for sharing this beautiful tribute to your grandmother, Rosemarie. It is so fitting and well-deserved. She is looking down on you and blushing, because she doesn’t want to be the center of attention, yet she is so filled with gratitude of all the love!!

  15. Never had the pleasure of meeting your Grandma but thru your words I believe her to be one remarkable lady. No wonder Gena Mulllins (who I worked with at Royal Oak) throws parties every chance she gets and I’d often wonder “who is going to eat all this food?” that she would post on FB. She obviously learned from the best to feed her family and friends with joy. I’m certain your grandma has peace but I don’t think she’s going to get alot of rest; she’s probably feeding and loving all of heaven with a joyful heart. You were lucky to have her.
