At DeLuca family get togethers, there may have been 50 plus mouths to feed at every get together, but you better believe that the food never ran out and everyone went home with a doggy bag filled with goodies. A staple that has never changed. And we all knew which drawer had the tootsie pops, and which cabinet had the Diet Caffeine Free Coke.
She never missed anything, she was always there in mind body and soul. And now, she may no longer be there in body, but I assure you she will be in spirit and soul. When she arrived in heaven on Wednesday night, her son Peter was waiting there with a giant empty bowl and spoon, just waiting for some pasta Azul and some of that vintage homemade pizza.
Her daughter Josephine was also waiting on her, along with her mother she lost at 16, as all 3 women finally got to meet all at once. “Josephine, I’m so happy to see you again, please allow me to introduce you to your Grandma Lombardo.” She most likely said with tears of joy rolling down her cheeks.
Carl Jung once said, “The best chance you have at success is to give yourself up to loneliness, fear nothing and work hard. You will learn that life is based less than you think on what you have learned, and much more than you think on what you have had in you from the beginning.”
I close with that quote for this reason, my beautiful Grandma Rosemarie DeLuca, never went to a single day of college, never worked a 9-5 job, but she was the smartest person I have ever known. Simply because she understood what it really meant to be rich, what it really meant to be happy, she didn’t need a book, she didn’t a pulpit or a podcast to preach on, she just needed her family.
And now, she sits with the all the Angels and Saints, the ones on her holy cards all those years. Holding their hands, praying together and looking down upon us, looking down and smiling at the legacy and the dynasty that she built.
Rest in peace Grandma, we love you!
The life of Rosemarie DeLuca will be celebrated at Ripepi Funeral Home in Middleburg Heights this Sunday from 1-6pm. Be prepared for an extremely long line. Her funeral mass will take place Monday at St. Patrick’s at 11am.
I am so very sorry for the great loss to your family. You wrote such a beautiful description of the life of a very beautiful lady. Our world could use more “homemakers” like her because ladies like this didn’t just nurture and care for our earthly homes but created and cared for homes here on Earth that were as near to our Heavenly home as they could possibly be. Homes filled with love. “And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love; but the greatest of these is love” 1 Corinthians 13:13
