While the rest of the sports world is shutting down for a disease that is slightly effecting less than 1% of the entire worlds population, the UFC isn’t shutting down. UFC Fight Night: Lee vs. Oliveira took place last at Ginásio Nilson Nelson in Brasília, Brazil.
The night started off slow with the first 9 fights ending in either a decision or draw. In that stretch fans were once again warned to pump the brakes on the Johnny Walker hyper train as he lost his second straight fight, falling to 17-5.
Walker had started out 17-3 and a winner of 9 straight before the recent skid. His loss last night came via decision to Nikita Krylov.
The final three fights of the night finally brought the fans some much needed action and excitement. Renato Moicano only needed 44 seconds to submit Damir Hadzovic.
It helped him break a two-fight losing streak and improve his overall record to 14-3-1. He was 13-1 at one point, and looked to be a future champion, perhaps this win gets him back on track.
The co main event saw the demise of Demian Maia ever again getting a title show in the UFC with an embarrassing loss. He was knocked out by Gilbert Burns. His fourth loss in the last seven fights and this one wasn’t even close.
Meanwhile Burns continues to be on the rise with his fifth straight win. He is now 18-3 and right in the mix of the Welterweight title picture.
The main event saw Brazils Charles Oliveira win his seventh straight fight and look convincing doing it. He choked out Kevin Lee with 28 seconds left in the third round.
Oliveira has been on an outstanding tear with wins over clay Guida, Jim Miller and Jared Gordon just to name a few.
Lee came into the fight nearly 3 pounds overweight and didn’t seem to care at times. He has now lost 3 of his last four fights and appears to be sliding fast.
