LAKEWOOD, OH – St. Ed’s used a great running game and timely turnovers to capture a wet and wild 38-19 victory.  The Eagles now advance to host Hudson next week at home in the third round of the playoffs.  The explorers defeated the Jackson Polar Bears 44-14 tonight as well.  Landon Lehmer was the star on defense with multiple picks of of two different passers while the Eagles used the legs of Langston once again who went over 100 rush yards.

Langston Lucas finished with 158 yards on 14 carries with 3 touchdowns.  He also passed for 1095 yards on 11 of 16 passes with a touchdown and a pick.  His main threat was Joe Moore with 6 catches for 104 yards along the way.  His lone touchdown pass went to Max Jemison who had 3 catches for 81 yards.  Ronnie Neal chipped in handsomely with 61 yards with a touchdown as well.  Landon Lehmer had himself a night for the ages with 2 picks off of two different passers, both of which stopped promising Wildcat drives.

Saint Ignatius started red hot, causing an Eagle fumble to start the game and then only needing one play to make it count.  Dane Donvovan threw a dime over the middle to Trey Haddad from 35 yards out to score.  Just like that, it was 7-0 Wildcats with 9:35 to play in the opening quarter. The Wildcats needed one play to score.

The next break went the way of the Eagles, after the Wildcats forced a three and out, they fumbled the punt, handing the ball right back over to Big Green at the Saint Ignatius 45. After two first downs, the Eagles had to settle for a 34-yard field goal by Dallas Nixon, who remained perfect on the season, 6 of 6 on field goals.

After a 51-yard field goal attempt from Saint Ignatius hit the crossbar the Eagles went back to work near midfield and dialed up a big play to Joe Moore to get them moving.  A few moments later, another big pass to Moore set the Eagles up at the goal line. It would be Lucas sneaking it in shortly after to hand the Eagles a 10-7 lead with 10:42 to play in the first half.

Up 10-7 and handling the ball again, Ed’s only needed one play to strike.  This time a 61-yard launch over the middle to a streaking Maxwell Jemison was too much for the Wildcats secondary to handle as Jemison sprinted towards the endzone untouched. 17 straight points put the Eagles ahead 17-7 with 9:09 to play.

Things went from bad to worse for the Wildcats, after Donovan was hurt and knocked out of the game, the Eagles picked off the first Jacob Mikin pass, to get the ball back at midfield with 7:23 to play in the second quarter.

A beautiful Landon Lehmer interception near the goal line, snuffed out a possible Wildcat score with just 47 seconds to go in the first half as Saint Ignatius had been driving. The game went to half with the Eagles up 17-7.

A 36-yard Ronnie Neal run started the first Eagle drive of the second half.  This combined with a 24-yard strike to Joe Moore placed the Eagles inside the Wildcat 10.  Back to back runs from Langston Lucas improved the Eagle leads to 24-7 with 7:36 to go in the third quarter.

The Eagles held on for the 38-19 victory after a wild fourth quarter that saw a combined 26 points scored in a game that was pretty much already decided.  The Wildcats finish the season at 6-6 while the Eagles improved to 10-0 with the win.
