St. Ed’s Defeats Loudoun 23-0 As Game is Called in the Third Quarter

LAKEWOOD, OHIO – A bizarre game with multiple injuries to key players on Loudoun Sports Academy led to it getting called in the early with the St. Ed’s Eagles up 23-0 with 2:30 to play in the third quarter. Things got completely out of control late into the third and the officials had seen enough.  They met with both coaches and school administrators and came to the decision to end the game right then and there.

The game was called off with 2:30 left to play in the third quarter after a series of personal fouls led to a Loudoun defender picking up and slamming Joseph D’Ambrosia to the track around the field.  The officials had seen enough and called it. This was only minutes after a Loudoun player was taken to the hospital after being hit and landing on his neck, getting knocked out and taken off on a stretcher in an ambulance.  My prayers are with that family as it did not look good. With respect to everyone involved, I will not be mentioning the name of the player who got hurt or who hit him. Let’s just get to the recap.

Ronnie Neal picked up 50 yards on his first two carries to jumpstart the Eagles opening drive. It fell flat however as Langston Lucas rushed a pass that was picked off near the goal line.  They forced the Timberwolves to go three and out on the ensuing drive however. The first quarter ended scoreless.

The Eagles opening drive of the second quarter began at midfield after a terrific punt return from Landon Lehmer. A few plays later the Eagles cashed in with a 33 yard over the shoulder touchdown pass to Dacian Williams who was wide open when he caught it in the endzone. It took a little over 3 minutes to score on the drive as the Eagles now led 7-0 with 5:52 to play in the second quarter.

Jospeh D’Ambrosia led the next Eagle touchdown drive which was highlighted by the 42-yard pass to Joe Moore.  One play later it was Ronnie Neal plowing ahead to score and make it 14-0 with 3:20 to play in the opening half.

Following a safety, another great return by Landon Lehmer allowed the Eagles to start their opening drive of the second half from the Timberwolves 20-yard line. Two players later it was the senior Collin Tedesco scoring to extend the Eagle lead to 23-0 with 8:58 to play in the third quarter.

Shortly after that, things began to get out of control and the game was wisely called. Great job to the refs, the coaches and the administrators such as Pete Kahler, St. Ed’s AD who made the right call.

The Eagles will receive a bye next weekend and pick things back up again in two weeks.
