Oberlin – On a rainy and muddy night at Firelands, the visiting Keystone Wildcats defeated the Firelands Falcons by a score of 6-0.

All the Keystone Wildcats needed was a first-quarter touchdown from Zach Taylor to improve to 8-0 on the season. The Wildcats came into this game after defeating the Columbia Raiders in a battle of undefeated teams a week ago. Firelands came into this contest 6-2, including being undefeated in Lorain County League action.

Following a Firelands punt on their first offensive possession, the Keystone offense got the ball at its own 44-yard line and marched down the field seemingly with ease. The Wildcats turned to the duo of Zach Taylor and Kaden Colon on the ground, as they combined to account for 39 of the 56 total yards on the drive. The other 17 yards came when Bobby Gurich laid out for an incredible diving catch in the mud.

The drive concluded with a 10-yard touchdown run from Taylor to give Keystone a 6-0 lead.

All night long, a big story was the rain, which came down seemingly nonstop, except during halftime, of all times.

Both offenses, following the Keystone touchdown, were able to find success on the ground and through the air but were never able to sustain it long enough to score.

For the Firelands Falcons, they were led by quarterback Liam Tobicash, who finished the night completing 17 of 26 passes for 137 yards and added 35 more yards on the ground.

His favorite target on the night was tight end Brett Beury, who caught nine of Tobicash’s passes for 61 yards.

The Keystone defense never allowed the Falcons to fully break through, however, as the Wildcats forced three turnovers, along with numerous turnovers on downs and punts.

After allowing the Wildcats’ touchdown, the Falcons’ defense never broke again either. The Falcons forced a turnover of their own, along with numerous turnovers on downs and punts.

The Wildcats’ offense was led by quarterback Colton Cowling, who completed 7 of 11 passes for 64 yards. The ground game was really the story of the night for Keystone. Colon carried the ball 13 times for 44 yards, while Taylor also carried the ball 13 times for 33 yards and the game’s only touchdown.

With the win, the Keystone Wildcats improve to a perfect 8-0 (5-0 in Lorain County League play) on the season. The Wildcats look to finish their season perfect when they host the Clearview Clippers next week.

As for the Firelands Falcons, they fall to 6-3 (4-1 in Lorain County League play). They will look to bounce back from this loss next week when they head to Columbia to take on the Columbia Raiders.

Player of the Game – Keystone’s Zach Taylor

In a 6-0 game, the person who scores the six points is pretty important. Taylor was that player for the Wildcats, and if they want to stay perfect on the season, they may need him to find the end zone yet again next week.
