Fort Worth, TX – The No. 12 Texas Tech Red Raiders continued their impressive run through Big 12 play Sunday afternoon as they took down the TCU Horned Frogs 1-0 inside Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.
The Rundown
The Red Raiders came out firing early in the first half as they looked to put pressure on the TCU defense. They created several scoring opportunities throughout the opening 45 minutes, but the Frogs backline and goalie Olivia Geller held strong. Despite being outshot 8-3 in the first half, TCU would create several opportunities of its own, earning five corner kicks in the first half. The Red Raiders got their best shot of the half off right before the first set of whistles when Kylie Bahr sent a header toward the goal and past Geller. Luckily for the Frogs Hannah Harms was there to clear the ball off the goal line keeping the match even when the whistles blew to end the half.
Coming out of the half, the Red Raiders wasted little time breaking the tie as they found the back of the net a little over two minutes into the second. Eleanor Hays sent a free kick soaring into the box on a set piece from nearly midfield connecting with Taylor Zdrojewski who headed the ball toward Bahr, who fired a right-footed shot past the keeper and into the back of the net to give Texas Tech a 1-0 lead in the 48th minute. The goal marked Bahr’s second of the season and put the Frogs in a position where they would have to battle from behind.
TCU continued to search for an equalizer with their best shot coming from Grace Coppinger who put a shot on goal in the 56th minute. However, the Texas Tech defense refused to give up the tying goal as the Red Raiders held on to secure the 1-0 victory. The Red Raider Addie Todd secured her eighth shutout of the season on two saves. Overall Texas Tech out shot TCU 13-6 with 6 shots on goal to their 2. The victory marked Texas Tech’s first win in Fort Worth since 2014 and extended its unbeaten streak to 18 matches dating back to last season. The Red Raiders also remained undefeated in Big 12 play as they continued their push toward a conference championship.
