Fort Worth, TX – The No. 8 TCU Horned Frogs extended their 11 game winning streak to 12 on Friday night as they swept the Arizona Wildcats in three sets inside Schollmaier Arena.
The Rundown
The Frogs came out firing in the opening set as they quickly jumped out to a 4-0 lead. They would build on the advantage behind the defense of Kinsley Young, who helped record back-to-back blocks extending the lead to 9-4. Arizona would try to work its way back into the set, but the TCU attack continued to find success as Evan Hendrix recorded back-to-back kills to putting the Frogs up 21-15. Lauren Murphy would then add two kills of her own before Becca Kelley finished off the opening set with an ace to give TCU a 25-17 victory.
In the second set the Wildcats came out looking to even the match taking an early lead before the Frogs slowly worked their way back into the set, eventually tying it at 12. From there, neither side created any separation as they continued to trade points well into the set. It wouldn’t be till the set was tied at 23 that either team would get an advantage, but luckily for TCU they had Kelley. Who would come up with her 10th kill of the night to give TCU the set point. This set up Jalyn Gibson to kill the set and give the Frogs a 25-23 victory and a 2-0 advantage in the match.
Heading into the third set and looking to complete their sixth sweep of the year, TCU wasted little time taking control jumping out to a 4-1 lead. The Frogs continued to build the advantage as Young and Reese Robins teamed up for another block to extend the lead to 10-5. However, the Wildcats continued to hang around eventually bringing the match back to even at 17, but it was not enough to hold back the Frogs attackers. Hendrix and Kelley continued to do what they’ve done all season and pulled the Frogs back ahead with Gibson finishing the set and match, 25-20.
A quick match for the Frogs finishing the night with 43 kills while hitting .320 as a team and dominating the net with nine blocks. This win marked TCU’s 12th in a row and puts them one shy of tying the longest streak in program history.
