The Rocky River Pirates Defeat the North Olmsted Eagles 35-0

Final Score: The Rocky River Pirates crush the North Olmsted Eagles 35-0

Rocky River, Ohio –

North Olmsted received the opening kickoff and quickly found themselves in a third-and-long situation. Quarterback Cam Massamiani’s pass was intercepted by Danny Berg, who returned the ball to the 8-yard line, giving Rocky River excellent field position. Following a holding penalty and an incomplete pass that set up a third-and-long, a 6-yard gain and an offsides penalty moved the Pirates closer. On 4th and goal, Quarterback Carter Atwater then connected with wide receiver Tristin Hughes for an 8-yard touchdown pass, giving Rocky River an early 7-0 lead.

North Olmsted struggled to generate offense on its next possession. A couple of rushes gained little yardage, and a delay-of-game penalty forced the Eagles to punt the ball back to Rocky River. Looking to build on their early lead, the Pirates quickly moved into Eagles territory when Atwater connected with Hughes for a 16-yard gain. Although a holding penalty pushed Rocky River back 10 yards, the setback proved insignificant. On the very next play, Atwater found WR Brendan Konet downfield for a 45-yard touchdown pass, extending the Pirates’ lead to 14-0.

It only got worse for the Eagles on the second play of their next possession. Massamiani threw his second interception of the game, this time to Rocco Baon, who returned it 49 yards for a touchdown. The pick-six extended Rocky River’s lead to 21-0 with 1:16 remaining in the first quarter. North Olmsted showed signs of life on its ensuing drive when Blake Drazen broke free for a 14-yard run, giving the Eagles their first, first down of the game. However, the drive stalled, and facing a fourth-and-short situation, North Olmsted was stopped behind the line of gain on their rushing attempt, resulting in a turnover on downs. The Pirates quickly took advantage of the favorable field position. A pair of runs by Rocco Baon moved Rocky River into Eagles territory, setting up another scoring opportunity. Looking to continue the aerial attack, Atwater delivered a 41-yard touchdown pass to Rowan Kennedy, pushing Rocky River’s lead to 28-0.

North Olmsted searched for any spark of momentum on their next possession. A 14-yard completion from Massamiani to Cody Jak moved the Eagles near midfield, but the drive stalled shortly afterward, forcing another punt with just under two minutes remaining before halftime. Once again, Rocky River wasted little time capitalizing. The Pirates needed just one play to find the end zone, as Atwater connected with Rowan Kennedy for a 57-yard touchdown pass, extending the lead to 35-0 moments before halftime. On the ensuing kickoff, a short squib kick and an interference penalty against Rocky River gave North Olmsted favorable field position at the Pirates’ 39-yard line. The Eagles appeared to gain some momentum and converted a fourth-and-1 to keep the drive alive. However, back-to-back unsportsmanlike conduct penalties against North Olmsted proved costly, pushing the Eagles into a fourth-and-39 situation and out of Rocky River territory. The penalties effectively ended the threat and brought the first half to a close with the Pirates firmly in control, 35-0.

Coming out of halftime, Rocky River received the opening possession of the second half. However, a 15-yard penalty against the Pirates backed them up and eventually led to a fourth-and-7 situation. Rocky River elected to go for it, but the pass attempt fell incomplete, giving North Olmsted possession near midfield. The Eagles were unable to capitalize on the opportunity. A false start penalty, coupled with a short 6-yard gain, left North Olmsted facing a third-and-7. Then, disaster struck once again for the Eagles. Massamiani threw his third interception of the game, this time to Connor Novosel, who returned it 48 yards for a touchdown. Novosel’s pick-six pushed Rocky River’s lead to 42-0 with just over three minutes remaining in the third quarter, further cementing the Pirates’ dominance on both sides of the ball.

North Olmsted was searching for any sign of momentum late in the game.  Massamiani connected with Cam Wishner on a 20-yard completion that moved the Eagles into Rocky River territory and down to the Pirates’ 22-yard line. However, the drive stalled, and facing a fourth-and-2 situation, North Olmsted elected to go to the air. The pass fell incomplete, resulting in a turnover on downs and giving possession back to Rocky River. The Pirates were unable to add to their lead on the ensuing drive and eventually punted the ball back to the Eagles. With time winding down and neither team able to generate another scoring opportunity, the game came to an end. Rocky River dominated from start to finish. The Pirates secured an 42-0 victory over North Olmsted.
