North Olmsted used consistent offensive pressure and a strong defensive performance to earn a 3-0 victory over Normandy.
The Eagles controlled much of the possession and generated the majority of the scoring opportunities, finishing with a 22-7 advantage in shots. Normandy goalkeeper Faith Mathis kept the Invaders within striking distance for much of the match, recording 16 saves while facing repeated North Olmsted pressure.
North Olmsted broke through at the 27:45 mark of the first half when Esma Shahin found the back of the net to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. North Olmsted continued to create scoring opportunities and added another goal at the 37:52 mark of the first half. Emily Perog finished the chance to extend the Eagles’ advantage to 2-0 heading into halftime.
Normandy had difficulty generating offensive opportunities in the opening half as North Olmsted maintained pressure and controlled possession. Both teams also created chances from corner kicks, but the Eagles were able to capitalize on their opportunities and build a two-goal lead before the half.
North Olmsted continued its offensive pressure in the second half and added an insurance goal with 7:50 remaining in the game. Amaya Capps found the back of the net off an assist from Shahin, making it 3-0 and putting the game out of reach.
Normandy showed improvement offensively after halftime, recording five of its seven shots in the second half. However, North Olmsted’s defense limited the Invaders’ chances, and goalkeeper Brigid Grabowski preserved the shutout with eight saves.
