The Flashes had perhaps their poorest offensive showing in the Dru DeShields era and will return to the friendly confines of Dix Stadium still in pursuit of their first scoring drive.
KSU’s defense came out strong, forcing the Gamecocks to punt on their first drive. However, head coach Shane Beamer’s squad dominated the game every step of the way after their sole mistake- especially on the ground.
The Gamecocks finished just shy of 300 total rushing yards at 286, led by redshirt freshman Jabree Coleman with 77 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only four carries. Behind him was redshirt sophomore Matt Fuller, who opened the scoring for South Carolina and finished with 74 rushing yards on 10 carries.
DeShields left the game midway through the second half, finishing with 63 passing yards on 12 completions and a decent 60% completion percentage. The best is still yet to come for the redshirt junior, who will look to get back in the swing of things next week at home against Wofford.
His South Carolina counterpart, junior LaNorris Sellers, had a phenomenal game, throwing for 270 yards and three touchdowns.
What ultimately doomed the Flashes was offensive line play, as the Gamecocks dominated the trenches.
The Flashes will kick off at noon next Saturday against the Wofford Terriers as heavy home favorites.
