by The North Royalton Bears wasted no time taking control on Friday, shutting out the Valley Forge Patriots 33-0 behind a strong offensive performance and a defense that kept the Patriots off the scoreboard the entire night.
The Bears jumped out to an early 13-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. North Royalton QB #7 Daniel Piper helped set the tone early, moving the ball through the air and on the ground, giving the Bears multiple opportunities to make plays downfield.
North Royalton opened the scoring with a rushing touchdown from #0 Rory Hannah. The Bears continued to move the ball as Piper found Hannah for this time a receiving touchdown. Hannah’s impressive two touchdowns made him tonight’s player of the game.
The Bears added 13 more points in the second quarter to take a 26-0 lead into halftime. Valley Forge had an impressive interception by #6 Logan Melinsky, but they were not able to answer on offense afterwards, as North Royalton’s #31 Anthony Kinney had an interception to end any hope of scoring.
North Royalton’s kicking game also contributed to the first-half scoring. #99 Srdjan Novakovic connected on field goals from 33 and 43 yards, adding six points to the Bears’ total and helping North Royalton take a commanding lead into the locker room.
The Bears kept the pressure on in the third quarter, although neither team added to the scoreboard. Piper continued to lead the North Royalton offense, while #5 Cole Lipchek, #20 Bryce Defendorf, and #2 Enzo Gajewski each made catches during the quarter. The Patriots continued to search for an answer, but North Royalton’s defense kept Valley Forge from putting together a scoring drive.
North Royalton added one final touchdown in the fourth quarter. #7 Daniel Piper connected with #2 Enzo Gajewski for another touchdown, putting the Bears up 33-0 and capping off the scoring for the night.
Valley Forge continued to battle throughout the game, but the Patriots were unable to find the end zone against the North Royalton defense that kept the shutout in place.
North Royalton’s ability to force turnovers, make plays in the passing game, and consistently find the end zone gave the Bears control from the opening quarter to the final whistle.
North Royalton finished the night with a 33-0 victory, opening the season with a dominant performance on both sides of the ball. The Bears’ offense consistently found ways to move the ball, while the defense forced turnovers and kept Valley Forge from gaining any kind of momentum.
