The Midview Middies played host to the Westlake Demons to kick off the 2026 season. After a tight first half, the Middies shut the Demons down in the second half and pulled away for a 34-14 season opening victory. The Middies offense was dominant on the ground, rushing for 265 yards.
After both teams went 3 and out on their opening drive, the offenses began to take off. Midview went right down the field on their second drive with 4 passes to sophomore receiver Kellen DeSimone. Middies QB Brennen “Mooks” Newton then scored the game’s first touchdown on a 7-yard scramble.
It did not take long for the Demons to respond. A 26-yard completion from QB Moe Abdelhady to Gavin McMillen set them up at the 2-yard line, from there running back Hadi Mustafa scored to tie the game up at 7. Jace Wright took the ensuing kickoff all the way back for a Middies touchdown, but a holding penalty wiped it off the board.
Midview still ended up moving the ball deep into Westlake territory, but found themselves in a 4th and 23 from the Demons 34-yard line. That was when Newton threw up a prayer that was somehow answered by Kyler Reid in the end zone. However, another holding call took that touchdown off the board too and the Middies were forced to punt.
On their following possession, Midview was able to get back on the scoreboard with a 13-yard run by Wright. It was a monster night for Wright, going for 148 yards on 19 carries and adding 3 catches for 36 yards through the air. Westlake once again came firing back quickly. A 1-yard touchdown run by Abdelhady made it a 14-14 game.
Right before halftime, the Middies operated a very successful 2-minute drill that was capped by another scramble touchdown from Newton. Newton finished the game with 106 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns, while also throwing for 203. Midview took a 21-14 lead into the break.
The Demons began the 2nd half with a promising drive that looked destined to even things up. That was until Moe Abdelhady was intercepted by Domarion Bryant just short of the end zone. The Middies took over at their own 1-yard line.
A dominant 99-yard march down the field, finished off by a 23-yard Jace Wright touchdown, extended the Midview lead to 27-14. In the 4th quarter, the Middies delivered the dagger. It came in the form of Newton’s third rushing score of the night. That made it 34-14 with 4:10 remaining.
With the Demons in desperation mode late, Abdelhady was picked off a second time. This time it was De’Mere Gray, a junior defensive back for the Middies.
