by The former two-time USFL Champion Birmingham Stallions made it official earlier today, they are moving out of Birmingham, leaving fans stunned. The Stallions were a staple of the USFL before it became the UFL, winning the league twice in 2022 and 2023. The league confirmed that these new markets will be ready for the upcoming season, along with an expansion team set to debut in Oklahoma City in 2028 as the Gamblers have also left Houston and will now look for a new home.
The league Co-Owner Mike Repole put out the following statement earlier today.
“Departing a market is never easy, and this decision does not reflect the dedication shown by our players, coaches, fans, local partners, or civic leaders in Birmingham or Houston. We are grateful for their passion, commitment, and support, which have played a significant role in the continued evolution of the UFL.
My mission is to build a league that is not only sustainable today but also successful and thriving for decades to come. Developing a spring football league requires discipline and tough decisions guided by our clear long-term vision. Every market evaluation starts with three principles I have consistently emphasized: the right market, the right-sized venue, and a passionate fan base.”
Houston and Birmingham were the last two teams remaining from the re-born USFL back in 2022 and are now gone as our the Philadelphia Stars and Michigan Panthers before them.
