Guardians’ Offense Continues to Stall Out, Cleveland loses 2-1

Tuesday night’s contest between the Cleveland Guardians and the Chicago White Sox continued the trend of a brutal month of June for Cleveland.

Despite out-hitting Chicago 6-3, the Guardians only managed to score one run all night long. This is the fifth time since May 30 that Cleveland has left a game having scored a single run.

Moving to 41-39, the Guardians hole in the second spot in the American League Central Division will become even deeper.  At 41-37, Chicago will now feasibly play with house money for the duration of the season until the All-Star break.

Opening the scoring in the bottom of the fourth inning, Colson Montgomery brought in veteran outfielder Randal Grichuk on an RBI single.

In the very next frame, rookie outfielder Kahlil Watson tied it for Cleveland at 1-1 on his first career home run.

Unfortunately for Watson, the moment was short-lived.  Miguel Vargas would follow suit, and his solo home run put the White Sox back in the driver’s seat.

A 2:10 p.m. start time is scheduled for the conclusion of this series. Wednesday’s starters will be Tanner Bibee for Cleveland and Erick Fedde for Chicago.
