Cleveland Monsters Fall to Utica Comets 5-3

The Monsters dropped their fourth straight game and remained just one win away from clinching  a birth in the AHL playoffs next month.  It was 4-3 Utica late when the Monsters pulled their goalie in an effort to gain the equalizer but couldn’t as the Comets eventually took advantage of the empty to put the game away for good.

After a nip and tuck 1-1 first period, the Comets began to get hot, outscoring the Monsters 3-1 in a dominant second period that saw them build a commanding 4-2 lead with goals.  The Comets scored an impressive 3 times in the periods first 10 minutes to place the Monsters with their back against the wall at 4-1.  The Monsters took advantage of a power play to get one back and keep it withing reach at 4-2 after two.

Dealing with a short hand on the penalty kill the Monsters caught a huge break when the TUNA found a breakaway goal to get it close at 4-3 and spark life into the Monsters hopes.  Sadly, they couldn’t score the equalizer and the Comets went on to win.
