Miami (OH) RedHawks women’s basketball used a dominant shooting performance from beyond the arc to pull away from Ohio Bobcats women’s basketball for an 80-52 Friday in the Mid-American Conference women’s basketball tournament.
Top-seeded Miami (OH) knocked down 16 3-pointers and shot 50% from deep, overwhelming No. 5 seed Ohio with a balanced offensive attack and strong rebounding effort.
RedHawks Amber Scalia led the team with 22 points, hitting 5 of 7 from beyond the arc while adding 6 rebounds. Clara Gonzalez Panella added 17 points and also connected on five 3-pointers as Miami built separation with its perimeter shooting.
Amder Scalia recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds while contributing 5 assists and three blocks, helping Miami control the glass with a 47-41 rebounding edge. Ilse de Vries chipped in 11 points on three 3-pointers.
Miami also moved the ball efficiently, finishing with 21 assists on 29 made field goals.
Ohio struggled to find its rhythm offensively, shooting just 28.4% from the field and 13.8% from 3-point range. Monica Williams paced the Bobcats with 18 points, including three 3-points, while Elli Garnett added eight points and nine rebounds.
The RedHawks’ defense also created problems for Ohio, forcing 15 turnovers and holding several Bobcats starters to under 30% shooting.
With this win, Miami (OH) advances in the MAC tournament to the Championship, continuing to push forward for the 6 time in history to compete in the fight. While Ohio’s postseason run will come to an end.
