Elyria, OH — The Elyria Pioneers rolled to a 76-44 victory over the Medina Bees in the Division I Northeast District 4 semifinal.

The Pioneers started the contest on a 7-0 run, with five of those points coming from Lorain County Division 1–3 Player of the Year Kendyll Compton. The teams then exchanged baskets until Medina went on an 8-0 run of its own to take its only lead of the contest at 17-15, thanks to a pair of free throws from senior Ryan Harubin. Elyria answered with a basket from junior Seth Wilkerson to tie the game as the teams moved into the second quarter.

The teams traded baskets early in the second before Elyria closed the half on an 11-3 run to take a 30-22 lead into halftime. Compton, who finished with a game-high 26 points, scored seven of the Pioneers’ points during the run.

The second half is where the Pioneers really took control. Elyria outscored Medina 46-22 in the half.
The Pioneers were bigger, faster, and more physical, and it showed throughout the contest. It seemed whatever the Bees threw at them, the Pioneers had an answer.

In what was the final game on their home court this season, Elyria put on a show for the home faithful. Slam dunks and alley-oops from Compton and sophomore Ethan Rodgers helped put an exclamation point on the victory.

With the win, the Pioneers advance to the Division I Northeast District 4 Final in Barberton, where they will face Canton McKinley.
Player of the Game — Elyria senior Kendyll Compton:

In his final game in the Pioneer gym, the senior made his presence known. Compton finished with a game-high 26 points along with several steals and highlight plays that fired up the Elyria faithful. The Pioneers will need another performance like that to secure their spot in regionals.
