Trenton, OH- The Brookville Blue Devils delivered a dominate performance on Friday Feb, 20th to win the team championship in the SWBL JV Wrestling Tournment, finishing with 154.5 points at Edgewood High School.
Brookville separated itself from the field with consistent scoring across weight classes, building an early lead and extending it throughout the day. The Blue Devils depth proved to be the difference in the 11-team tournament, as they advanced multiple wrestlers deep into their respective brackets and accumulated bonus point that put the title out of reach.
Waynesville finished second with 115.5 points while Frankin placed third with 110.0. Both teams remained in contention into the later rounds, but neither was able to match Brookville’s steady pace on the mats.
Host Edgewood took fourth place with 70.0 points, narriwly edgeing Ross, which finsihed fifith with 69.0. Eaton placed sixth with 54.0 points, followed by Bellbrook with 34.0 points, Monroe with 32.0, and Valley View 30.0. Madison ended the tournament with 13.0 points, and Talawanda rounded out the standings.
The tournament featured a full slate of junior varsity competition and provided teams an opportunity to evaluate developing wrestlers in a league setting. Several close matches and back-and-forth bouts highlighted the day, particularly in the middle weights, where placement points were heavily contested.
Brookville’s ability to score in nalry weight class ultmatley made the difference, allowing the team to pull away as the finals concluded. The win capped a strong showing for the Blue Devils and marked a successful day league competition.
The Southwestern Buckeye League JV tournament served as an important benchmark as programs continue to prepare for the remainder of the wrestling season.
