Sauer Soars in Elyria Win Over East Tech

Elyria, OH — Senior Bella Sauer scored a career-high 15 points to lead Elyria to a 60-14 win
over East Tech.

The Lady Pioneers wasted no time getting going, setting the pace early—a pace the Lady
Scarabs simply could not keep up with. Elyria turned that tempo into quick baskets that added
up fast. In the first quarter, the Lady Pioneers were paced by senior Kam Scott, who scored nine
of her 12 points in the quarter.

She was joined on the scoresheet by junior forward Lexi Luckey,
who tallied six of her 11 points in the opening frame. Guards Kaidyn Dechant, Brooklyn Cruz,
and Bella Sauer also chipped in, as Elyria jumped out to a 24-3 lead heading into the second
quarter.

In the second quarter, Sauer—who was limited to a single three-pointer in the first—had her
highest-scoring quarter, pouring in seven points. Fellow seniors Kyrah Boddy and Kam Scott
joined her on the scoresheet, along with Dechant and Luckey.

Freshman Caedence Niemeyer
also knocked down a three-pointer, sending the Pioneer gym into a frenzy. Elyria allowed just a
two-point basket and a free throw from East Tech’s Heaven Thorn in the quarter, taking a 43-6
lead into halftime.

With a running clock in the second half, Elyria’s pace slowed, as the Lady Pioneers scored 17
points total in the half. Sauer added five more points to finish the night with a career-high 15.
Cruz and Luckey each found the scoresheet once more, with Cruz finishing with six points and
Luckey closing with 11. Nalani Vinnovich, Emma Edwards, and Lay Pinkston also contributed,
each scoring at least once in the second half.

For the Lady Scarabs, Nadia Pamplin and Brooke Allen found the scoresheet after halftime, but
their efforts were too little, too late, as Elyria closed out the 60-14 win.

The victory marks Elyria’s second win of the season—and their first since November. The Lady
Pioneers will host Amherst on Wednesday night at the Pioneer gym.

As for the Lady Scarabs, they’ll head to Youngstown to take on the East Lady Bears on
February 11.

Player of the Game — Elyria’s Bella Sauer:
The senior guard finished with a career-high 15 points, showing exactly why leaving her open
may not be the best idea. A performance she can build on as she continues her senior season
