Avon Eagles Defeat Berea-Midpark Titans in Key SWC Tilt

Today in boys basketball the Berea-Midpark Titans faced off against the Avon Eagles with the Eagles coming away with a victory of 63-57. Both teams fought extremely hard to get the win tonight.

Starting off the game hot Avon won the tipoff with an automatic dunk to give them a lead of 2-0. They continued to increase the gap by 9 before the Titans answered back. The Eagles, still in the lead, continued to score in the first quarter and increased the gap until the second quarter started.

The Titans seemed to have flipped a switch, slowly closing the gap with. They started to find their groove and scored multiple points letting them get closer to the Eagles making it seem like they could get the comeback win. Both teams went back and forth for a while with the Titans still slowly closing the gap until the buzzer rang to end the first half with a score of 26-21 Avon still on top.

Starting off the second half both teams came out hot, although the Eagles scored the first points in the second half, the Titans didn’t give them much room to breath on offense. They both continued to go back and forth with the Titans getting close but the Eagles not letting them get the lead.

Avon called a couple crucial timeouts to keep possession in the fourth. With the clock running down they started to find their second gear and continued to score with the Titans breathing down their neck, cutting the lead to one bucket numerous times in the second half.

The Titans started to slip with defensive mistakes letting the Eagles get easy points through foul shots and fast breaks. The Eagles ended up pulling away late in the fourth quarter sealing their victory over the Titans.

The top scorers for the Berea-Midpark Titans were Nick Reece, Tyson Clay, and Reid Braaten. The top scorers for the Avon Eagles were Joey Zeigler, Brooks Good, and Sam Griffiths
