Today in girls’ basketball, the Hathaway Brown Blazers lost to the Lutheran West Longhorns 60-25. Starting the game, the Blazers won the tip off. The game started slowly, with the first few minutes going scoreless until the Longhorns scored their first point. After that, they continued to increase the score gap, ending the first quarter at 12-0.
In the second quarter, the Blazers started to fight back, trying to close the gap, getting a quick 6 points on the Longhorns, but didn’t seem to be able to keep the momentum they had going. Shortly after the Blazers started to find their groove, the Longhorns took it back, scoring multiple points, forcing the Blazers to take a time out in hopes of stopping them. After the timeout, the Longhorns continued to increase their lead until the end of the second quarter with a score of 33-15, with the Longhorns in the lead.
To start the second half, the Longhorns started with the ball. The Longhorns continued to create a larger score gap and barely let the Blazers get points on offense, only allowing 6 points in the third quarter. The Blazers didn’t seem to give up, still pushing to get some more points on the board in hopes of coming back in the second half of the game.
The third quarter ended with a score of 45-23, with the Longhorns still in the lead by a large margin. Starting the fourth quarter, the Longhorns did not let up on the gas, scoring a quick point, causing the Blazers to take a quick timeout.
After the timeout, the Blazers quickly scored, but following that score, they did not score the rest of the game. The Longhorns locked up on defense and locked in on their offense, continuing to get bucket after bucket. Both teams fought hard until the final buzzer, with the Longhorns coming out of the game with the win, with a score of 60-25.
