The 49’s offense just wasn’t in the game tonight at their final home game of the season before the playoffs. The Seattle Seahawks, with the win, secured the NFC West title-their first time winning the title since 2020-along with the number 1 seed in the playoffs with home-field advantage and a first-round bye.
In the past three games, the 49ers have scored 37 points with starting quarterback Brock Purdy, totaling 10 touchdowns in the last two games. However, the Seahawks were able to stop the quarterback, allowing only a field goal in the second quarter. After the field goal, no other field goal or touchdown occurred.
At the start of the game, though, when the 49ers got the ball, a flag was called against them, allowing the Seahawks to get the ball back. Seahawks starting quarterback, Sam Darnold, was able to bypass an easy toss to running back Zack Charbonnet. Darnold also had 20-of-26 passing for 198 yards compared to Purdy, who had a 19-of-27 passing for 127 yards with one interception.
Running back Kenneth Walker III and Charbonnet, the running back duo, were back at it again in the game, combining for 171 yards the entire game. Charbonnet also got the Seahawks their first touchdown of the game with a 27-yard touchdown.
The Seahawks also had a really strong defense and were able to overtake the 49’s offense, which the team was known as having the hottest offense in the NFL. The Seahawks also were able to eliminate big plays the 49’s were trying to make.
The 49ers weren’t even able to get a first down, causing the offense to struggle, until in the second quarter with a thirteen yard completion between Purdy and wide receiver, Juan Jennings.
Besides both the defense and offense struggling, a big mistake occurred in the game that cost the 49ers a chance to catch up to the Seahawks. Wide receiver, Christian McCaffery, ended up missing the ball in the red zone, causing the Seahawks to be able to intercept the ball. He was also limited to 23 yards.
The 49ers ended the game with 173 total yards and 4.1 yards per play as well as 173 yards, which was the lowest the team has ever been. The last time was when Head Coach, Kyle Shanahan joined the team as head coach in 2017.
Update: The Los Angeles Rams won against the Arizona Cardinals, 37-20, so the 49ers will be in the number 6-seed in Wild Card.
