Elyria, OH — The Keystone Lady Wildcats won their 10th straight game Tuesday night,
defeating the Elyria Lady Pioneers 55-29 at the Pioneer gym. The duo of sophomore Jayda
Gaines and junior Madyson Sokolowski combined to score 44 of Keystone’s 55 points in the
contest.
Early on, both teams looked to feel each other out. By the end of the first quarter, Keystone held
a 12-7 lead, largely thanks to Sokolowski, who scored 10 of her game-high 27 points in the
opening quarter.
The second quarter saw the Lady Wildcats begin to take control of the game, as Elyria was
limited to a three-point basket from Bella Sauer and a free throw by Kam Scott. Gaines and
Sokolowski handled the scoring for Keystone in the quarter, with Gaines contributing eight
points and Sokolowski adding six. That effort helped Keystone take a 26-11 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Gaines and Sokolowski continued to make life difficult for the Lady Pioneers,
with additional support from a handful of underclassmen. Four other Lady Wildcats scored at
least two points on the night, as Keystone finished with 55 points as a team in the 55-29 win.
Despite being on the wrong side of the final score, Elyria did have a bright spot in freshman
Armanni Garret. Despite only playing in the fourth quarter, she led the Lady Pioneers with eight
points.
With the win, the Lady Wildcats improve to 10-0 on the season. They’ll look to remain
undefeated when they travel to Columbia for a Lorain County League matchup on Monday,
January 5th.
As for the Lady Pioneers, the loss drops them to 1-7 on the season. They’ll look to rebound
when they hit the road to take on the Amherst Steele Lady Comets on Wednesday, January 7th.
