ROCKY RIVER, OH – The River Pirates did a masterful job of moving the ball, creating open lanes and rebounding in a total performance 62-48 victory over rival Bay Village tonight in the second half of a back-to-back with the girls teams.
The Pirates were led by Jacob Radcliffe with 18 while Danny Berg muscled and hustled his way to 13. Brandon Nazette and Colin Hunt each scored 10 while Rowan Kennedy finished with 7. Jeff Maslar and Alex Gioradno each finished the game with 2 as the Pirates did a masterful job getting everyone involved.
The Rockets were led by Ryan Miller and Emmitt Naughton with 13 each while Ethan George had 9 and Henry Schriner had 8. Kelan Rose finished with 3 while Brody Beggs capped the Rocket scoring with 2.
A tight first four minutes saw the Pirates edge a 7-4 lead. From there, they built it to 12-7 before back-to-back buckets from Naughton cut it to 12-11. A Shriner three at the buzzer sent the game to the second quarter at 14-14.
The Pirates used back-to-back three balls from Berg and Radcliffe to develop a 20-16 lead that they eventually spread to 24-18 before a George three ball cut it back to 24-21. From there however the rest of the second quarter appeared to be all River as they used hot shooting from Radcliffe to build a 31-24 halftime lead. It was a 10-point lead until a Naughton three late.
Back-to-back three balls from Ethan George pulled the Rockets within 3 at 33-30 before the Pirates went on a wild third quarter run. The Pirates scored the next 13 with a barrage of buckets from Berg, Radcliffe and Hunt to balloon the lead out to 46-30 before it was finally halted by a Schriner three ball. The third quarter ended with the Pirates up 48-37.
The game remained close at the 4:05 mark with the Rockets only down 55-46 and still very much in it. It was then that a Nazette three ball pretty much put it away for good at 58-26 as no one scored for the next 2 plus minutes. The Pirates went on to capture the 62-48 victory.
