WWE Survivor Series War Games Recap & Reaction

WWE Survivor Series War Games was live tonight from Petco Field in San Diego.  The show didn’t fail to deliver plenty of memorable moments.  Here is a quick breakdown of what went down and how we felt about it.

Men’s War Games Match

CM Punk, Cody Rhodes, The Usos (Jey Uso and Jimmy Uso), and Roman Reigns vs. The Vision (Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed), Logan Paul, Drew McIntyre, and Brock Lesnar (with Paul Heyman)

Result –  The Vision

Our reaction – I’m not surprised they won but clearly the Mystery Man that helped them has everyone guessing.  Hard to believe that a team with Drew McIntyre, Bronn Breaker and Brock Lesnar would need extra help to win, but the creative team went that way anyway.

My guess is that it was either Seth Rollins or in a massive twist, Austin Theory. Again, Rollins makes sense because of his unfinished history with Punk, at the same time, why wouldn’t he go after Breaker for Reed or recently put him out of action?

As for Theory, he has been the name bandied about for the past 6 months to join the group, so again, this is another perfect chance to slide him in. Is this finally the time for The Vision to take on a Evolution type feel, with Theory as the Orton?

As for the fade to black with Rhodes and Reigns staring each other down, if Rollins isn’t back for WrestleMania, it looks like we get Rhodes vs Reigns III.

Women’s War Games Match

Rhea Ripley, Iyo Sky, Alexa Bliss, Charlotte Flair, and AJ Lee vs. Nia Jax, Lash Legend, The Kabuki Warriors (Asuka and Kairi Sane), and Becky Lynch

Result – Team Reyo wins

Our reaction – It had the classic garbage can spot with Sky from the top of the cage. It had Becky acting like a coward and even taking the loss to AJ Lee.  So, overall, not a bad match with some fun spots, but the WWE cannot ignore a few things from it.  One of which being the zero response of any kind both Nia Jax and Lash Legend received, the other is the crowd wants a Flair vs Ripley WrestleMania trilogy. There’s something brewing, trust me.

Singles match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship

Champion Stephanie Vaquer defends against Nikki Bella

Result – Stephanie Vaquer

Our reaction – Two of the sexiest women in WWE history collided in a match everyone knew the outcome prior to it even starting.  This return for Nikki Bella has been a disaster and this is just another loss of many during this run.

For Vaquer, it is clear she is a cut above and only has a few in her caliber that could tear down the house with her.  I’d pay to see her take on Bianca Belair, Charlotte Flair, Guilla, Iyo Sky or Rhea Ripley.  The issue being, creating a path where that somehow occurs.  The WWE creative team has their work cut out for them with that.

Singles match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship

Champion John Cena defends against Dominik Mysterio

Result – Dirty Dom with the win

Our reaction – This was booked perfectly with the return of Liv Morgan by Dom’s side.  Also, re-creating the Cena heel turn with Liv was nicely done!  The real question is if Liv can play nicely with Roxanne Perez for the friendship of Raquel Rodriguez, or are Dom and Liv headed out of the Judgement Day?

For Cena, he didn’t need the belt and this win will do wonders for Dom’s long-term storytelling ability.  Also, this opens the door for a Cena win in his last match, ala Sting in AEW last year.  You expect a legend to go out on his back and now he doesn’t “have to” as he is no longer carrying a championship.

But, who will he face is still very much up in the air?  A win for LA Knight over Cena is something he BADLY needs right now, can he get there?  Or will Gunther be the new, “Legend Killer” and follow-up the Goldberg retirement with Cena? Solo doesn’t have a snowballs chance in Hell of being the guy and that just leaves Jey who seems to be wrapped up with other things right now.
