Jurassic World Rebirth Review

After a six movie binge over the later part of the summer of the entire Jurassic Park franchise, I was all set to go to the theaters and check out, “Jurassic World Rebirth”.  Then, this crazy thing called, “High School Football Season” came along and took me off course a bit.  So, it never occurred but when it hit Peacock today, I just had to smash that play button!  Here are my thoughts.

The Female Lead

Scarlett Johansson did a bang-up job as the female lead.  Her character had that sense of danger to her and vulnerability all at the same time. She was sexy as Hell, as per usual!  My problem with her was simply that she wasn’t easy to root for, she seemed money hungry and even skipped her own mother’s funeral to go make a quick buck.  Once they left, she became a bit more easy to like, but the early parts of the movie were hard to embrace her character Zora.

The Scientist

The character Henry was the usual “do it for science” guy who simply wanted people to care about Dinosaurs again.  At first I wasn’t sure what to think, would he be a nerd that got in the way or Hero.  He became a Hero and was easy to root for.  I really liked him and each movie of any kind, I picture myself as one of the characters, in this one, Henry was my guy!

The “Dad”

Each movie has a family involved in some way, it could be Bryce Dallas Howard as the aunt, Jeff Goldblum as the single Dad, or Chris Pratt pretending to be a dad, it is always something.  This time it was a single dad with two daughters, a good premise, as a father of two daughters I could relate too.  Mix in the teenage girls boyfriend and this one had legs.  The problem at times being, the father didn’t exactly make the smartest or safest choices and at times, seemed to be completely clueless.  The youngest daughter was obnoxious and the older one made a few odd choices, but when she stuck up to the lead foil, (Martin Krebs) it was a great moment as she wasn’t putting up with his nonsense.

The Dinosaurs

Who knew a T-Rex could swim?  Some of the feats the Dino’s in this one could pull off was a little crazy, but when a 7-year-old girl can outsmart a T-rex by hiding underneath a raft, it kind of brings you back to reality quick that you are watching a movie.  Overall, looking at Dinosaurs that actually once existed, never stops being cool but the Mutated Hybrid ones were a bit much and tarnished what was once the franchises best attribute.

The Villain

From Denis “Newman” in the first film, to Martin Krebs in this one, the films almost always have an evil genius out for no good!  This was the case yet again with the worlds most ambitious and also shady “Pharmaceutical Rep”.  He wasn’t the worst villain, most dangerous or even smartest, but he was a jerk, and it worked to make him hatable.

Overall, this movie isn’t great, but it is good enough not to be bad.  I give it 2 1/2 keys out of 5.
