The Cleveland Browns used big plays, turnovers and lousy execution by Miami to defeat the Dolphins 31-6 today at the stadium. It was their first game all season in which they scored over 17 points as well as their first game all season in which they didn’t allow a touchdown. Was Cleveland showing signs of improving or is Miami just that damn bad?
Regardless of any of that, a win is a win and here are the Game Balls coming out of it.
Game Ball One – Defensive Coordinator Jim Schwartz
The Browns forced the Dolphins into 4 total turnovers, including 3 pics of Tua and one fumble recovery on a kickoff after they had just gone up 10-3. The Browns defense flew to the ball today and even scored themselves when a tipped pass landed in the hands of Tyson Campbell who promptly took it 34 yards to paydirt on the opening play of the second half. The Browns also sacked Miami quarterbacks 4 times in the route.
Game Ball Two – Harold Fannin Jr
The Browns showed again today that they have the worst passing attack in the NFL with another horrible performance. Their top receiver was rookie tight end Harold Fannin who had 4 more catches today, including 2 for first downs. The rookie leads the team in catches this year by a landslide and seems to be the only reliable set of hands for rookie quarterback Dillion Gabriel to search for.
Game Ball Three – Placekicker Andre Szmyt
The much-maligned placekicker after week one, has been nearly perfect ever since. He scored another 7 points today going 4 for 4 in kicks with lousy weather. He is now 10 of 12 on the year with Field Goals and 11 of 12 on limited extra point attempts.
Game Ball Four – The Fans who showed up today
For any fan to sit in the rain for 4 hours watching the two worst teams in football go at it, deserve a standing ovation and game ball. They were loud and made it fun to watch!
Game Ball Five – Quishon Judkins
Let’s face it, he wasn’t great today, in fact, I would say he wasn’t even good. If you remove his one run for 46 yards, he had 24 rushes for 38 yards, which is a 1.5 yards per carry average. That is a serious problem the Browns needs to work on. However, you do have to count that one run, not too mention his three touchdowns.
