Catching Up on the Cardinals: Ball State Athletics weekly results

Here are the results for Ball State Athletics from the week of Monday, Oct. 13 to Sunday, Oct. 19.
Monday (Oct. 13)
Ball State men’s golf played its second round of 36 holes in the Purdue Fall Invitational. Freshman Luke Johnston led the Cardinals with rounds of two over (74) and two under (70).
Tuesday (Oct. 14)
Ball State men’s golf finished the Purdue Fall Invitational in 10th place of the team event. Junior Avery Mahoney led the Cardinals in the individual part of the tournament as he fired a score of two under (67) on a par-69 course. This earned him co-medalist with two other golfers.
Ball State field hockey (3-12, 1-4 MAC) fell to Michigan State 5-1. Senior Emma van Hale scored the Cardinals’ lone goal.
Wednesday (Oct. 15)
No events.

Thursday (Oct. 16)
Ball State soccer (8-5-2, 5-3-1 MAC) topped Toledo 2-1 at Briner Sports Complex. Freshman Jess Fernau hit the game-winning shot in the 73rd minute, which was also her first collegiate goal. Senior Addie Chester also scored in the victory.
Ball State women’s volleyball (12-8, 8-0 MAC) beat Bowling Green 3-2 for the Cardinals’ eighth straight conference victory. Sophomore outside hitter Carson Tyler led the Red and White with 24 kills.
Friday (Oct. 17)
Ball State women’s volleyball (13-8, 9-0 MAC) defeated Bowling Green 3-0 once again to stay undefeated in MAC play. Tyler and junior middle hitter Gwen Crull each had nine kills.
Ball State field hockey (4-12, 2-4 MAC) defeated Bellarmine in double overtime, 2-1. Junior Julia Verrati scored both goals, including the game-winner.
Ball State cross country competed in the Bradley Pink Classic. Graduate student Carly Spletzer led the Cardinals with a 14th-place finish out of 205 runners. She finished with a time of 20:59.80.
Saturday (Oct. 18)
Ball State football (3-4, 2-1 MAC) hosted Akron for its homecoming game. The Cardinals won the game 42-18. Redshirt senior QB1 Kiael Kelly had three rushing scores and a touchdown pass in the win. Ball State’s defense also recorded two late interceptions in the victory.
Sunday (Oct. 19)
Ball State soccer (9-5-2, 6-3-1 MAC) defeated Bowling Green 1-0 on the road for the Red and White’s fourth-straight win. Chester delivered the deciding goal — her 10th goal of the season — in the game’s 34th minute. She’s the second Cardinal in the program’s history to have double-digit goals in multiple seasons (10 in 2024).
Ball State women’s golf began its final tournament of the fall season as the team competed in Little Rock’s three-day Diamante Intercollegiate. No results could be found.
Ball State field hockey (4-13, 2-5 MAC) fell to No. 18 Miami (OH) 5-0 on the road. The Cardinals had zero shots on the goal.
