Owen Singleton’s Three Touchdowns Lead Olmsted Falls Bulldogs Victory over Midview Middies 42-7

GRAFTON, Ohio – The Olmsted Falls Bulldogs, behind a three-touchdown performance from running back Owen Singleton, defeated the Midview Middies 42-7 Friday night.

First Half:

Following a turnover on downs by Midview, Olmsted Falls got to work on their side of the field. The combination of running backs Logan Connelly, Khye Gilbert, Owen Singleton, and quarterback Cameron Pesch ran down the field. Singleton got the final carry of the drive, running the ball from five yards out into the endzone to give Olmsted Falls a 7-0 lead.

On the next Midview drive, quarterback Shay Williams found Olmsted Falls defensive back Adam Smith for an interception, giving the Bulldogs excellent field position just outside the redzone. A few plays later, Singleton found the endzone for his second touchdown of the game on a one-yard rush, making the Bulldogs lead 14-0.

On the next Midview drive, quarterback Shay Williams found some success through the air. He found wide receiver Zachary Wallace for 13 yards, then wide receiver Brennen Wallace twice for receptions of 18 and 23 yards, respectively. A few plays later, though, Williams threw his second interception of the night, this time to Olmsted Falls defensive back Logan Connelly, who ran 80+ yards for the pick-six, extending the Olmsted Falls lead to 21-0.

Following a Midview punt, Olmsted Falls got the ball with great field position again. On his first two touches of the game, running back Andrew Minor picked up 35 yards on the ground, setting up running back Connor Santo for a 15-yard rush, including a 10-yard touchdown run to extend the Olmsted Falls lead to 28-0.

Olmsted Falls then picked off Midview again, this time, defensive back Sammy Kosraba getting in on the action. The Olmsted Falls offense then proceeded on its longest drive of the game, going 95 yards in length, to end the half. The drive finished when Owen Singleton scored his third downtown of the half, this time on a play-action pass from quarterback Cameron Pesch on the final play of the half, to take a 35-0 lead into halftime.

Second Half:

Following a missed field goal by Olmsted Falls, the Midview offense showed despite being down, they still had fight in them. Star running back Marcus McMahon, who had been shut down in the first half by the tough Olmsted Falls defense, ran the ball three times for 72 yards on the drive, including a 57-yard touchdown run to put Midview on the board, as the Olmsted Falls lead was trimmed to 35-7.

On the next Olmsted Falls drive, the Bulldogs answered right back. Backup quarterback Owen Porter showed off his legs as he ran for a touchdown from 32 yards out, extending the Olmsted Falls lead to 42-7, which would be the final score.

With the win, Olmsted Falls improves to 6-3 (4-2 in the Southwestern Conference) and keeps them in contention for a first-round bye in the playoffs. They will host the North Ridgeville Rangers in a huge game, not just in the Southwestern Conference, but also in Division 2, Region 6.

As for the Midview Middies, the loss drops them to 4-5 (1-5 in the Southwestern Conference). They look to keep their playoff hopes alive when they travel to Amherst next week as they play the Amherst Steele Comets.

Player of the Game: Olmsted Falls senior running back Owen Singleton, who ran the ball 10 times for 71 yards with two touchdowns on the ground. He also caught a five-yard touchdown pass.
