Homecoming Night Leads DePaul College Prep Rams 36-7 Victory Over Saint Viator Lions

LINCOLN PARK, IL. — Driven by Tyson Hook’s two explosive touchdowns and an oppressive defensive performance, the DePaul College Prep Rams defeated the Saint Viator Lions 36-7 for their homecoming victory on Friday.

First Half:

It was flag central in the first quarter, with both teams unable to find their rhythm; the score remained 0-0.

The Rams offense exploded in the second quarter, putting up 15 points. After the Lions were forced to punt from fourth down, Rams running back Tyson Hooks captured the punt return. From their own 41-yard line, Rams quarterback Jackson Grabinski connected with Hooks once again, this time for a 59-yard touchdown drive. Hooks is a very athletic player who carries an explosive drive to his game. The play did not stop there. On the two-point try, kicker Emmett McCue took the snap and ran it into the end zone, catching the Lions off guard and putting the Rams ahead 8-0 with 8:30 left in the quarter.

Later in the quarter, the Rams pulled off a trick play and were successful with a double pass. Grabinski threw a short pass to wide receiver Blake Yucan, who then launched a pass downfield to a wide-open Matthew Osterman for a touchdown. McCue’s extra point was good, and the Rams took a 15-0 lead.

Defense for the Rams was just as impressive, highlighted by an interception from junior George Farrell to keep the Lions off the board.

Second Half:

The Rams continued their dominance in the third quarter. Hooks struck again and broke free for another incredible run, this time a 49-yard touchdown. Showcasing his elite speed and agility. McCue’s extra point extended the lead to 22-0.

Not long after, the defense got in on the scoring. Rams’ linebacker Luke Flom tallied a pick-six after reading the Lions’ offense and intercepted the pass to return it for a touchdown. McCue’s successful extra point extended the lead to 36-0. Rams’ defense stood like a wall as juniors Hunter Wahtola and Cash Reese constantly applied pressure, and Wahtola came up with a key sack.

The Lions finally got on the board in the fourth quarter when their quarterback, Joey Lampignano, scrambled for a touchdown run. The extra point from Alex Niemiec made the score 36-7 with 3:16 to go in the game. Despite the late touchdown, the Rams offense was able to run out the clock, securing a deserving triumph on their homecoming night.

Player of the Game:

Rams sophomore, Tyson Hooks must be on college coaches’ radars. His ability to break through defenses with captivating speed stands out. Hooks’ performance against the Lions demonstrated his importance to the team’s offense. A 59-yard touchdown in the second quarter and a 49-yard touchdown in the third quarter highlighted not just his speed but his vision and ability to make defenders miss in the open field. Hooks could earn postseason accolades if he continues at this pace.

Honorable Mention: Rams senior linebacker Luke Flom’s third-quarter pick-six.
