Avon Eagles Fly High in 55-27 Victory Over Berea-Midpark Titans

Berea, Ohio – The Berea-Midpark Titans hosted the Avon Eagles at George Finnie Stadium for a conference showdown. The Eagles went on to secure a 55-27 week six win over the Titans on the road.

Berea-Midpark started off the game with the ball on their own 44-yard line. The Titans offense was halted by a strong Eagles defensive stand to force a three-and-out, resulting in a punt. Avon began their first drive on their own 47-yard line after the punt was blocked, setting the Eagles offense up in good field position. Avon moved the ball efficiently down into Titans territory which resulted in a 19-yard reception touchdown from wide receiver Fin Jerdonek, giving Avon a 7-0 lead with 7:59 remaining in the first quarter. Berea-Midpark started their next drive on their own 14-yard line. On the first play of the drive, quarterback Dylan Papushak launched a deep shot to wide receiver Tyson Clay for an 86-yard reception touchdown, tying the game at 7-7 with 7:39 remaining in the first quarter. 

Avon started their next drive on their own 26-yard line. The Eagles offense methodically drove down the field alternating short passes and rush attempts. Avon marched into the red zone and scored a 6-yard rushing touchdown from running back Michael Colburn to give the Eagles a 14-7 lead with 2:00 remaining in the first quarter. Berea-Midpark began their next drive on their own 20-yard line. The drive was short-lived after the Avon defense brought the pressure and forced a Titans punt, setting the Eagles up on their own 29-yard line. Avon held onto possession of the ball going into the second quarter up 14-7 on the road.

Avon continued their drive with quarterback Blake Elder completing numerous slant-route gains. The Eagles offense continued to cruise down the field and scored a 12-yard rushing touchdown by running back Cody Canning to give Avon a 21-7 lead with 10:00 remaining in the second quarter. Berea-Midpark started their first drive of the second quarter on their own 48-yard line. The Titans offense, trying to stay in the game, were moving down the field and made it inside the Eagles 25-yard line before being held on fourth down, turning the ball over on downs to set Avon up on their own 20-yard line. Avon’s drive was short-lived after a costly pass was intercepted on the second play of the drive, which set the Titans offense up on the Eagles’ 10-yard line. On three run plays, the Titans offense punched the ball in on a 4-yard rush by quarterback Dylan Papushak to make the score 21-14 Avon with 3:56 remaining in the second quarter. 

Avon began their next drive on their own 36-yard line. The Eagles offense marched down the field and scored a 7-yard rushing touchdown by running back Michael Colburn to give Avon a 28-14 lead with 0:38 remaining in the first half. Avon kicked the ball off to Tyson Clay, who received the ball on the Titans’ five yard line and took the ball to the house on a 95-yard kick return touchdown in the blink of an eye, making the score 28-21 Avon with 0:24 remaining in the first half. Avon began their final drive of the first half on their own 35-yard line. The Eagles made quick work of the time and got into field goal range with 0:04 remaining in the first half. The Eagles attempted a 41-yard field goal, but the kick went left as time expired, sending the teams to their locker rooms with a close score of 28-21. 

Avon started the second half with the ball on their own 45-yard line. The Titans defense came into the second half strong, forcing a turnover on down on four plays, setting the Berea-Midpark offense up on their own 49-yard line. The Titans offense moved the ball efficiently and ended up in the red zone. The Avon defense held firm, forcing a turnover on downs, setting their offense up on their own 10-yard line. The Eagles offense had a good run game to start the drive, and ultimately scored a touchdown on a 59-yard reception from wide receiver Caden Clapham, giving Avon a 35-21 lead with 6:59 remaining in the third quarter. Berea-Midpark began their next drive on their own 30-yard line.

On a five-minute drive, the Titans offense strategically made their way to the endzone on a 4-yard reception touchdown by wide receiver Nick Reece to make the score 35-27. The extra point was blocked, keeping the score where it was with 1:45 remaining in the third quarter. Avon started their next drive on the Titans’ 23-yard line after a great return. On two rush attempts, the Eagles scored a 4-yard rushing touchdown from running back Adrien Ramirez to give Avon a 42-27 lead with 1:10 remaining. Berea-Midpark started their next drive on their own 40-yard line. The Titans backfield received a lot of pressure, which resulted in the quarterback being stripped on a sack, giving the Eagles the ball going into the fourth quarter and setting them up on the Titans’ 10-yard line.  

Avon, on a few short plays, scored a 4-yard rushing touchdown from running back Michael Colburn to make the score 49-27 with 10:41 remaining in the game. Berea-Midpark began their next drive on their own 35-yard line. The Eagles defense was too much for them, resulting in a quick punt. Avon started their next drive on their own 37-yard line. The Eagles offense moved down the field with ease from tired Titans defenders.

Avon scored a 30-yard receiving touchdown from wide receiver Sammy Ulery to make the score 55-27. The Eagles decided to go for two to try to make it a 30-point lead, and were unsuccessful, keeping the score at 55-27 with 7:06 remaining in the game. Berea-Midpark began their next drive on their own 44-yard line. The Titans offense was no match for the Eagles secondary, who forced four straight incompletions and a turnover on downs. Avon began their next drive on their own 37-yard line. The Berea-Midpark defense held firm and forced a punt. The Titans offense began their final drive on their own 20-yard line. Berea-Midpark held possession for the remainder of the game as time expired.
