Catching Up on the Cardinals: Ball State athletic results from the last week

Here are the results from Ball State Athletics from the week of Monday, Sept. 1 to Sunday, Sept. 6.

Monday (Sept 1)

Ball State women’s golf began the Boilermaker Classic hosted by Purdue University by tying the program’s lowest round in history at Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex. Altogether, the Cardinals opened the tournament with a +11 (299) score. Junior Jasmine Driscoll led the Red and White with a 72 and 75 (147 overall) on the first day.

Ball State men’s golf placed 11th out of 12 teams at the 2025 Island Resort Intercollegiate event in Harris, Michigan. On the final day, Cameron Young shot a three-under 69 to help the Red and White pass Miami (OH).

​Tuesday (Sept. 2)

Ball State women’s golf finished the Boilermaker Classic in sixth place out of 14 teams. The Cardinals shot their best round of the event Tuesday with a +5 (293). Junior Sarah Gallager and freshman Sophie Korthuijs both turned in even-par rounds (72).

​Wednesday (Sept. 3)

No events.

​Thursday (Sept. 4)

Ball State field hockey (1-2) fell on the road to Stanford University 6-0. Although they held Stanford scoreless in the first 10 minutes, the Cardinals were unable to sustain their tough defense, falling for the second time this year.

​Friday (Sept. 5)

Ball State women’s (2-3)  volleyball kicked off the Top Dogs Challenge at UConn with two matches. First, the Cardinals defeated Colgate 3-2 before falling to the host Huskies 3-1. Sophomore Carson Tyler led the Cardinals with 40 kills on the day.  

Ball State field hockey (1-2) fell on the road for the second time of the week, this time to UC Davis in overtime, 5-4. Junior Reagan Kunkle, junior Julia Verratti, freshman Jade Vandevoorde and junior Ellie Francois all had goals in the loss.

​Saturday (Sept. 6)

Ball State football (0-2) fell to Auburn 42-3 in the Cardinals’ second game of the season. The Cardinals had 68 yards of offense (71 passing, negative three rushing).

Ball State women’s volleyball (2-4) wrapped up the Top Dogs Challenge with a 3-0 loss to South Dakota. Tyler led the Cardinals with 13 kills, which gave her 53 kills to end the event.

​Sunday (Sept. 7)

Ball State soccer (2-2-1) held its first home game of the season as Butler visited Muncie. The contest with the Bulldogs ended in a 2-2 tie. Junior Addie Chester scored Ball State goals, which gives her six on the season.

Ball State men’s golf kicked off the Golfweek Fall Challenge in Pawley’s Island, South Carolina. Final stats from the first round could not be found.

Ball State field hockey (1-3) fell to the University of California 3-0. Though the Golden Bears had eight total shots on the goal, the Cardinals could not get a shot at the promised land.
