Lake Catholic Cougars’ stellar defense stars in 21-14 win over the Avon Lake Shormen.

The Cougars came out the gate with a methodical ground attack and short routes on their pass plays. They were making great progress down the field. As they made their way to the 20 yard line the Quarter back Max Pisano threw a short pass to receiver Tyler Hribar, who took it 20 yards for the first score of the game.

The Shormen’s first drive didn’t end so sweet as they started off with some steam in a heavy pass offense, getting good yardage. Until a false start penalty took away the momentum they were building, going up-field as their drive goes unsuccessful turning into a punt. Both teams finished the quarter going 3&out on their next drives but in their last drive, the Cougars threw a pic on the opposite 20 to the Shoremen as they landed on the 41 in their territory. The Cougars made it out with a 7-0 lead.

The Shoremen started the 2nd quarter with the ball and started to make some progress until another penalty cost them some field positioning. After converting on a 4th down, they got tagged with an illegal man downfield that makes them punt the ball on their 39 yard line. The Cougars ended up in a similar predicament and turned the ball over to the Shoremen who made their way all the way down to their 15 and had to attempt a field goal,  which they missed. The 1st half ended in a standstill with the Cougars still leading 7-0.

After the Shoremen tied the game at 7 early in the second half, the Cougars capitalized off of a turnover with a 20 yard drive to score their second touchdown of the night, now leading 14-7. The Shoremen went  3 & out again when their punt was blocked and recovered by the Cougars who ended up on their 16 yard line.

The 4th quarter began with Lake Catholic converting yet again on a 16 yard drive to go up by 14 and went to hang on for the 21-14 win.
