UFC 319 Hot Takes

UFC 319 was tonight in Chicago and was loaded with upsets and some very wild moments.  Here are just a few of things that stood out to us.

Underdog Joseph Morales looked very strong to submit Alibi Idris to open the card.  He set in a beautiful triangle choke to begin the night with an upset.

Even with a Z or a S, it was a bad night for Barbosa & Barboza.  No matter how you want to spell it, both lost by 29-28 decisions.

Chase Hooper looked lost on his way to getting knocked out by underdog Alexander Hernandez in the first round.  Not sure at all what Hooper was trying to do here but he kept leaving himself wide open until he got caught and finished.

Jessica Andrade will never again challenge for UFC gold.  Andrade looked terrible again, with yet another loss.  Andrade has now lost 3 straight and 6 of her last 8.

Baysangur Susurkaev has serious holes in his game.  Everyone is going crazy for the Russian tonight, but honestly, I was not impressed.  Sure, he is 10-0, but he is one quality opponent away from getting destroyed.

Michał Oleksiejczuk scored his second straight KO victory.  Oleksiejczuk may not be fun to have to spell, but I have to give the guy credit, he hits hard!

Kai Asakura is not ready for the UFC.  The former RIZIN Champion is now 0-2 in the UFC and has been embarrassed in both fights, getting finished in the second round both times.  His quest to be the first Asian fighter in UFC History to be any good, is fading fast.

Is Michael “MVP” Page truly that good?  He dances around just like Anderson Silva used too.  The difference between Silva and MVP is that The Spider had the kind of attack to put people to sleep.  Meanwhile, Page really has nothing on offense as of late and just kind of gets by.  I don’t know, I’m not buying it.

Carlos Prates is the real deal!  He showed it again with a sensational last second knockout via spinning elbow over Geoff Neal at the 4:59 mark of the first round.

Bellator fighters continue to show up in UFC and lose.  Aaron Pico was the latest to show up with a world of hype and get destroyed.  Lerone Murphy used an amazing back spinning elbow to knock Pico out cold!   Murphy is now 17-0-1 and needs a title shot!

Khamzat Chimaev may become the greatest UFC Middleweight Champion since Anderson Spider Silva. He dominated every second for 25 straight minutes against an incredible champion in Dricus du Plessis.  I’ve never seen a champion get destroyed that badly for 5 straight rounds as DDP had zero answers for getting taken down and crucified time and time again.  I honestly have no idea who defeats Chimaev at 195, but I do feel as though RDR may be able to compete with his grappling. Maybe….
