Truth be told, I originally subscribed to Peacock for the WWE and also Soccer content, however every now and then it can provide some good cinema as well. Some personal favorites of mine were the docu series on the 1990 Yankees and the Bob Bertchtold stories. Comedies such as Killing it and Throwback with Steph Curry had me laughing nonstop as well. But, again, for the most part it is wrestling and soccer primarily on the screen.
Until recently, I always stood clear of any movies unless it was one I had seen before at the actual theater, or a classic such as Jurassic Park, Jaws and various others. I couldn’t help but notice the countless previews of, “The Woman in the Yard”. This was a psychological thriller that I didn’t even realize was once in the actual movie theaters. The more I saw the creepy preview, the more it pulled me in to watch it. Finally, about a month ago, I gave in and instantly regretted it!
The thought of some creepy woman terrorizing a family that just lost their father and husband, for whatever reason got my attention. Perhaps it was because you couldn’t see her face and the figure on the lawn simply looked like a ghost. It was an intense preview that left me wondering, so I went for it and hit the play button.
What then occurred was some of the most boring 86 minutes of my life, I may never get back. The movie that was seen as a thriller, was 95% talking as nothing happened outside of what you saw in the preview. Anyone with half of a brain could figure out that the lady on the lawn was nothing more then the soul of the woman she was terrorizing.
The kids came across as brats, which is hard to do considering they just lost their father, and it would have been easy for the writing team to make them vulnerable and sympathetic figures. It was just poor writing as it was the wife, Ramona. Instead of feeling bad for the widow, you found yourself wanting her to get what she had coming to her, only minutes in. She was just straight trash, and it was easy to see. The fact that she was the actual villain in all of this was not the shock you think it would be. Her being a pain in the ass was the reason he husband died in the first place.
I won’t go into details other then this was one of the worst movies I have ever seen and a hard pass to watch again. Do not make the same mistake I did.
