MAXIM Lacrosse will demand players embody the game by giving and receiving respect and understanding that character counts. The Lancers opened up with two quick goals within the first two minutes of the match. Quick and to the point, high octane offense from the beginning. They followed up with another goal at the 8:00 mark. They really honed in on pushing the pace and it worked out for them. #18, Ryleigh Vlcek for Brunswick scored the first goal for them after some great movement through the defense at the 5:30 mark. The Lancers would then take that punch and hit them right back at end of the quarter with a 4th goal. The Lancers were moving at an unbelievable pace to start the game and it was an amazing sight to see.
The 2nd quarter started off a tad bit slow until Ryleigh Vlcek once again went down the field for the Blue Devils with some quick moves for the goal at the 9:00 mark. The Lancers followed right back up with a goal of their own by Malena Hamdan. They have a standstill battle for possession, going back and forth. Until, Malena Hamden once again scores another goal off of a clean assist. #2 Brooke Gelhar from Brunswick activated her power and moved down the field with intent and was elusive on her way to a third goal from at the 3:00 mark of the game. Gelhar then got a nice assist from her teammate Chloe Kash to make the score 6-4 at the end of the half.
Start of the third quarter was resemblant of the 2nd with the slow start but Brooke Gelhar from the Blue Devils was able to score at the 6:45 mark off of a good spin move to free herself up for the goal. The 3rd quarter was starting to look like a comeback for the Blue Devils but the Lancers caught wind of that and struck gold on 3 straight goals at to push the score back within 4 goals. #11, Emma Garcia and Malena Hamdan led the way with this. They were tenacious throughout this stretch with multiple interceptions and either scored or assisted on each goal.
Abigail Karim from the Blue Devils was successful in her attempt to make 6-9 at the 8:52 mark of the 4th. Then #4, brooke Leedy gets a clean steal and darts up the field for the lancers for the score. Her top speed was something i was not ready for at all. She cleared the entire length of the field with elite speed that the Blue devils just simple weren’t ready for.
The back and forth action continued as Brooke Gelhar from the blue devils scores again to make the score 7-10. Which ended up being the final score of the game. Overall, it was a great and intense showing of top tier skill from both sides and it was truly an honor to watch both teams. The Lancers walked away the victor tonight with a 10-7 lead and now both teams prepare for their next matchup.
