(Side note from Vince McKee directly – I just want to say congrats to the families, coaches and players of the Avon Lake community.  What a magical run you had.  We were honored to cover it and wish not only the girls basketball program, but all sports programs at Avon Lake nothing but the best of luck.  We got our start with Avon Lake and it will always hold a special place in our hearts.  Congrats on a wonderful run. )

DAYTON, Ohio — Purcell Marian cemented its place in Ohio high school basketball history Friday afternoon, becoming just the fourth girls basketball program to win four consecutive state championships with a commanding 72-44 victory over Avon Lake in the OHSAA Division III state final at the University of Dayton Arena.

Purcell Marian (23-6), ranked No. 15 in Ohio by MaxPreps, capped off its dominant four-year stretch with an impressive 106-10 overall record. The Cavaliers closed out this season with 11 straight wins, further solidifying their dynasty in Ohio high school basketball.

The victory adds to Purcell Marian’s growing legacy, following back-to-back Division II state titles in 2024 and 2023, as well as a Division III championship in 2022. Only three other programs—Mount Notre Dame (2006-09), South Euclid Regina (2000-03), and Shaker Heights Hathaway Brown (2009-13)—have accomplished the feat of winning four consecutive state titles.

Purcell Marian’s senior class, consisting of Dee Alexander, Cy’Aira Miller, Ky’Aira Miller, Trinity Small, Jaylah Winters, and Alexis McDonald, finished their high school careers with four state championship rings, leaving an indelible mark on the program.

  1. I’m not sure what is worse, our gameplan for today or the fact that this awful article doesn’t mention one Shoregal! I understand we got our clock cleaned, but you could have at least mentioned our talented junior. And McKee wonders why not a single Avon Lake company will sponsor him. Hey, that reminds me, how did Magnificat do?

    1. I don’t normally do this, if ever, but this is a special circumstance so I will reply. The parents and kids of Avon Lake, along with their coaching staff should be incredibly proud. They did something today that 99% of student athletes will never do, and that is participate in a State Championship game. How dare you complain about the coach, myself or the young man who wrote this story? Please, just go soak up the moment with your child. As for the sponsorship thing, we had 3 Avon Lake based sponsors last year and hope that all 3 decide to return for High School Football. All my best to the Avon Lake community and God Bless! Next year however, I see a lot of ice, pucks and pad’s in my future for the winter.

    2. You’re a lonely angry woman. Taking shots at people behind a message board. Desperate for attention and while you hide, as you won’t post your name, we all know who you are. Appel was great, the team was great, our community was great. The other team was better. Nothing wrong with that effort you sad, pathetic, lonely woman.

  2. Great game by Purcell it was over from the opening tip, when the AL coach looked at the clock @ HT he knew they where cooked. He and they didn’t have an answer . Great Job Purcell! 4 time state champs
