SWC Power Rankings After Week Seven

If you agree or disagree, let us know at coachvin14@yahoo.com

The SWC has been a 3 team race much of the season, and after a major upset this past week, it may now be a two horse race. Midview and sophomore quarterback Ethan Surdock sent shockwaves throughout the conference with a thrilling come from behind upset over Olmsted Falls this past Friday.

They overcame a halftime deficit to pull off the shocker.  Coach DJ Shaw must be pleased with the direction of the Middies.

As for the Bulldogs, they must now run the table to get into the playoffs and that may be tough with matchups against Avon and Avon Lake in the final two weeks of the season. There is a chance they can still get in at 7-3, but why risk it?

One thing I know about coach DeLuca is that he knows how to motivate players to their very best, I wouldn’t expect these dogs to roll over, they never do.

And speaking of Avon, yet another injury to star running back Nick Perusek was certainly not the news coach Mike Elder wanted to get.

This Eagles team has plenty of depth however and will still be a threat thanks to an incredible defensive line.  That Eagles d-line is one of the best in the state and can shut down any attack.

Plus, Joey Lance and Devin Hunter have already shown they can step up in the absence of Perusek.  It is now that Danny Zeh must show he is more than a game manager and can step up with the spotlight on its brightest.  He has the talent to do it and the smart money is that he will!

Speaking of line play this season, Avon Lake has been sneaky good. They dominate the line each and every week and just wear teams out.  This team is loaded at every position and with a good mix of talented receivers and backs, they can score punches in bunches.

Corbo has stepped up huge since being named the full time starter in Week two and has shown he has no problems beating you with his legs as well as his arm.

Amherst is tough to peg thus far this season. They have won the games they should, and lost their two toughest challenges.  Don’t count them out yet however with Tyler Brezina at QB, and a stout running game behind him, this team is still very good.  They may have lost a lot of great talent from last season, but again, at 5-2 they are still very much in the hunt.

North Olmsted showed a ton of grit and excellent defensive play in the first three quarters against Avon this past Friday night. A few bad breaks went against them or else they could have very possibly held a lead heading into the final 12 minutes.

But if if’s and buts were candy and nuts, it would be Christmas all year round.  That being said, Avon just took over the game in the fourth and turned it into a running clock blowout in the blink of an eye.

Here is how I have them stacked up rankings wise through 7 weeks.
