The 10th grade class around Northeast Ohio for women’s basketball is perhaps the strongest it has ever been. It is loaded with Pagan from Avon, Bruder, Dewey and Lang from River, along with Braaten from Berea-Midpark, Sophie Spade from Padua, Elle Lakios from Magnificat, Booke Schroader from North Ridgeville, Grace Largent and Emma Schaefer from Olmsted Falls just to name a few of many.
When it comes to the GCC however, no one does it better then Strongsville Mustang Sidney Butera. Sid the Kid is on fire once again this season and has the teammates to back her up. The four seniors she starts with every game, are perhaps the best foursome int he state when you combine Sydney Bass, Faith Rodak, Eszter Dioszegi and Kennedi Neale. Together, they have become unstoppable and it has led to Butera breaking all kinds of assist records.
In fact, earlier this season it was on full display as she broke the school record for most assists in a single game as she dished out 13 against Euclid. Butera can also score punches in bunches if she needs too, but with her teammates has not been called upon to do that just yet, but trust me, if the call comes, she can and will answer! She can do it all if given the chance.
I spoke with her Head Coach Madyson Farnbauch about her, who had this to say, “Sidney Butera is a rare and special player. She is the one player I can’t take off the floor and makes everyone around her better. You don’t find many players with her drive, passion and knowledge of the game. Words can’t describe how proud and honored I am to be able to coach her. Her future is so bright at Strongsville and I can’t wait to watch her continue to grow in the next two seasons.”
Good luck to Butera and her teammates as they enter postseason with a 21-1 record while being undefeated in conference.
