by Today CVCA faced off against Elyria Catholic in round two of the Baron Cup. Elyria Catholic won the opening faceoff to start the game with both teams already coming out aggressive. The two teams already had shots on goal less than a minute into the game. Elyria Catholic started to gain more ground on CVCA holding the puck more as the period went on. Both of the teams made opportunities on net but both were not able to pull away with a goal.
Elyria Catholic’s Goalie Dominic Morris was doing a great job at stopping the puck from hitting the back of the net. CVCA started to get more aggressive towards the end of the first period but still was not able to score on Elyria Catholic star goalie. Heading into the second period Elyria Catholic came up with the first shot of the game missing wide. CVCA went man down early in the second period but Elyria Catholic was not able to capitalize off the man advantage opportunity.
Both teams came out stronger early in the second period but CVCA pulled away with the first goal of the game made by number 57 Eli Perrotta to make it 1-0. Elyria Catholic with the man advantage later in the period came up with a goal by number 97, Andrew Post, from deep making the score now 1-1.
Both teams had more opportunities but both were not able to score. The second period ended with the score of 1-1. In the third period both teams were fighting for the puck with big hits from both teams. Sadly neither team was able to score so the game went into overtime. There was a stalemate between the teams going back and forth with shots and amazing defensive plays but neither team was able to score.
Eventually the game went into a quadruple overtime because both teams were fighting for the puck and no one was able to score until about half way through the fourth overtime Elyria Catholic’s freshman Brady Basinger ended the game with an amazing goal to put Elyria Catholic through to the next round with the score ending in 2-1 with Elyria Catholic coming out victorious.
