The Magnificat Blue Streaks defeated the visiting Fremont Ross Little Giants in a commanding 66-20 victory today.  Their defense was airtight as they held the Little Giants to 5 points in the third, and scoreless in the fourth.  The capitalized on over 20 Little Giant turnovers in the route.

Without out five tool player Gemma Wichmann who was out with an injury, they turned to senior Charlotte Pap to enter into the starting lineup with a spark and she did just that, scoring all 6 of her points in the first two minutes of the game.  I spoke with Pap afterwards about her start and the early spark she provided, “My coaches always tell me to stay ready for when my time comes.  Coming in here I came in with a positive mindset which will boost my confidence the rest of the way.”

Sofia Wilson was on fire today, finding open teammates almost Magic Johnson style, she just has that way of seeing the entire court at once.  Once again she was dishing out assists and creating turnovers, all the while still scoring points as she finished with 12 first half points.  I spoke with Wilson about her style of play and downcourt vision, “I tell myself ways to help both my teammates and myself score buckets.  I have the mindset to get myself going because it will then help me get my teammates going as well.”

Elle Lakios has been a dangerous threat off the bench all season and she showed that again with 8 points in a second half surge of steals and points for the young Blue Streak.  I spoke with her postgame about her giant second half push, “I get the energy from the support my coaches and teammates give me.  That is what Mags basketball is, being there for each other”, said Lakios.

The Blue Streaks were led in scoring by Julia Hall who had 20 while fellow starters Reese Roggenburk finished with 5 and Sophia LaPorte scored 4.  Off the bench for the Blue Streaks Izzy Wilson Scored 5 while it was Erin Rosdelder with 3, Abigail Norman had 2 and Lily Kulhman scored one. The Little Giants were led in scoring by Avery Jones with 10.

As mentioned, Pap got it started with two three balls early to hand the Blue Streaks an early 12-6 lead with 4:14 to play in the first quarter.  Form there a combination of Sofia Wilson steals, assists and fast break points increased the lead to 20-6 as Wilson was everywhere she needed to be.  The quarter closed with a Pap steal and assist to Hall followed up by a Wilson bucket at the buzzer to hand Magnificat a 24-6 lead after one.

Two more Hall three pointers to start the second quarter put it out of reach at 30-8.  Those two threes from Hall were followed by two threes from Sofia Wilson, to put the game away for good at 38-11 halfway through the second quarter.  The Blue Streaks took a 41-15 lead into the break.

A third quarter 11-4 run fueled by Elle Lakios started the running clock as the lead was increased to 54-19.  The Blue Streaks went on to cruise to a 66-20 victory while shutting out the Little Lady Giants in the fourth.
