Medina Bees Win on Criteria in Back and Forth Dual against Brunswick Blue Devils 35-35

The Medina Bees won literally a neck and neck dual against Brunswick by criteria 35-35. The Bees finished with more falls than the Blue Devils, which led to their victory. All matches were nothing but exciting and fun to watch.

The Bees had ranked wrestlers in #15 Dominic DiFilippo at 106 pounds, #10 Taegan Gilmore at 120 pounds, #14 Aiden Supers at 157 pounds, #16 Nicholas Kaplack (who wrestled up tonight at 175 pounds) at 165 pounds, and #9 Cliff Nicholson at heavyweight.

106 lbs: Dominic DiFilippo (MEDINA) FALL Tegan Matousek (BWICK): DiFilippo with the clutch single leg takedown as he looks for a fall. Matousek is not making it easy for him though. DiFilippo with the 2 point nearfall to go up 5-0 at the start of the 2nd. DiFilippo got another takedown and 3 nearfall to go up 11-0. DIFILIPPO WITH THE CLUTCH FALL TO TIE IT! THE BEES WIN ON CRITERIA!

113 lbs: Nate Friedl (BWICK) FALL Evan Mitchell (MEDINA): Friedl and Mitchell battled to start out the match. Mitchell with a low single that produced a Friedl takedown in a great scramble. 3-0 Friedl. Friedl with a 2 point nearfall off a tilt to lead 5-0 at the end of the 1st. Mitchell on bottom to start the 2nd, and got the quick escape. Friedl scored yet again and locked up a cradle to win by fall for the Blue Devils!

120 lbs: Taegan Gilmore (MEDINA) FALL Davis Hulvalchick (BWICK): Gilmore got off to a 7-0 start with a takedown and 4 nearfall with an armbar, and yet ANOTHER 4 nearfall. One last armbar and the fall for the Bees!

126 lbs: Tyler Bradshaw (MEDINA) MAJOR DEC. Jackson Hulvalchick (BWICK) 19-5: Bradshaw with a takedown in a high level scramble and Hulvalchick with the escape. Hulvalchick with a takedown of his own to make the score 4-4 after a full nelson call on Hulvalchick. Bradshaw with an escape and nearfall to take the 8-4 lead with just a minute left in the 2nd. Bradshaw with a big half nelson to scoop up 4 more nearfall! 12-4 in favor of Bradshaw to start the 3rd. Bradshaw with another takedown to extend his lead 15-4. Bradshaw with ANOTHER takedown and stalling call on Hulvalchick to win 19-5 by major!

132 lbs: Jacob Kash (BWICK) DEC. Cooper Lavender (MEDINA) 11-7: Kash with the double leg takedown to open the scoring. Lavender then got a takedown of his own with a slick go-behind. Kash with the escape to tie the match 4-4 heading into the 2nd period. After a Kash escape, Kash hit a go-behind of his own to take the lead 8-4! Going into the 3rd period, Kash chose neutral giving a point to Lavender. Kash and Lavender in a DOGFIGHT that saw Kash prevail 11-7!

138 lbs: Michael Kessler (MEDINA) FALL Nick Petrakos (BWICK): Petrakos began the match with a single leg takedown and looked for a cradle but Kessler was able to escape. Petrakos with another single leg takedown to lead 6-1 going into the 2nd. KESSLER WITH THE CRADLE TO WIN! WOW!

144 lbs: Brayden Miles (BWICK) TECH FALL Kingston McDowell (MEDINA) 19-4: Miles shot a straight up bully double leg to start the match, and after a McDowell escape scored yet again going up 6-1. Miles went up 12-3 after a couple more takedowns as he continued to let McDowell escape. 15-4 Miles at the start of the 2nd period. Miles locked up the technical fall 19-4 after another scoring barrage!

150 lbs: Devin McCartin (BWICK) MAJOR DEC. Jack Storm (MEDINA) 12-2: McCartin with the firemen’s carry to open the scoring. McCartin with another takedown in the 2nd period after a 1st period rideout of Storm. 6-0 McCartin. Storm escaped, but had no answer for McCartin’s front headlock. The 3rd period saw McCartin come out on top with the major decision 12-2 after a flurry of firemen’s carries from McCartin. He is your winner for the Blue Devils!

157 lbs: Aiden Supers (MEDINA) DEC. Travis Latta (BWICK) 9-6: Latta with a takedown in another high-level scramble to start the match. Supers rolled through to grab the reversal still down 3-2 to Latta. Supers grabbed 4 nearfall from an armbar to take the lead heading into the 2nd period! Supers was superb on short offense and from bottom, after a Latta takedown he grabbed a reversal making the score 8-6 Supers. Supers pulled out the narrow victory 9-6 in a super tight match!

165 lbs: Carter Wickes (BWICK) TECH FALL Tyler Wilson (MEDINA) 22-5: Wickes opened up the scoring with a low double leg takedown. Wickes dumped Wilson with a single leg to go up 6-1. Wickes hit another dump from a single to go up 9-4. He was a scoring MACHINE scooping up another 3 to go up 12-4. 15-5 after a high scoring period saw Wickes ahead by a mile going into the 2nd. Wickes could not be stopped, and won the match by tech fall 22-5.

175 lbs: Nicholas Kaplack (MEDINA) MAJOR DEC. Logan Matousek (BWICK) 11-2: Kaplack grabbed the opening takedown of the match to go up 4-0 after a technical violation on Matousek. Kaplack rodeout Matousek in the 2nd period, still ahead 4-1. Kaplack escaped easily to make it 5-1. A Kaplack single leg extended his lead 8-1. Kaplack with another double leg, as bonus points are crucial for Medina here. 

190 lbs: Gavin Devitch (BWICK) FALL Aaron Tyson (MEDINA): Devitch with an INSANELY quick fall in the clutch for the Blue Devils!

215 lbs: FORFEIT

285 lbs: Cliff Nicholson (MEDINA) vs. Andrew Dalgeish (BWICK): Nicholson with the single leg takedown. Nicholson chose neutral and went right back to scoring on a double leg takedown. Nicholson with the half nelson to win by fall for the Bees! A pin at 106 will tie it!

This was a dual for the ages folks, and with Medina losing earlier in the season to Strongsville in another neck and neck dual, it could be anyone’s conference at this point. The GCC is up for grabs as the regular season heads to a close in the coming weeks. Be prepared for more amazing wrestling content coming your way!
