The game started slow with each team struggling to find a consistent rhythm. Four minutes into the action, the Irish only led 6-2. This didn’t last long however and the Irish got hot, taking a 19-10 lead after one, with the final points coming on a thunderous dunk from the sophomore for the Irish Dante Kimble.
Darius Wright drained a three to start the second quarter which gave the Irish their biggest lead of the game at 22-10. It was then however that the Eagles floored it back and went on a red hot 12-0 run, stunning the Irish and tying the game midway through the second. The push was led by Eagle leader JT Kelsheimer who scored 9 of the Eagles 14 second quarter points. From there both teams batted back and forth as the Irish took a 28-24 lead into the break on the strength of 11 points from the 6’10 senior John Worton.
The Irish extended the lead to 33-24 with the first 5 points of the second half. The Eagles did everything they could to keep it close, but by the end of the third quarter, six three pointers by the Irish were the biggest reason they led 48-33 heading into the final frame as the Irish scored 18 of their 20 third quarter points from long distance.
After the Irish extended their lead to the biggest all game at 52-32, the Eagles flourished one more run as they scored 14 of the games next 16 points to cut the lead to 54-52 with a few nice shots from Eagles with 3:50 remaining on the clock. The comeback fell short however as the Fighting Irish hung on for the 59-55 as they held the eagles to just 3 points the rest of the way.
