Olmsted Falls looked impressive with a big road win 58-16 over Amherst tonight.  The Bulldogs were led by red hot shooting from the outside as they sunk 14 from deep, accounting for 42 of their 58 points, roughly 72% of their scoring came from beyond the arc as 6 different Bulldogs hit from deep.

Leading the Bulldogs in scoring was Jesse Simon with 16 while Avery DeLisio had 11 and Addison Mullen with 10.  Carli Nagy and Grace Largent both finished with 6 while Emma Schaefer had 5 and Maddie Cerovac tallied 2.

Jayla Cruz, the returning senior Comet who was a stud on the team as a freshman and apparently is showing no rust because she looked great tonight, led the Comets with 8 points while Anna Phelan scored 3, as did Abby Broadhaus.  Finishing the scoring for Amherst was Grace Bender with 2.

The Comets actually kept the Bulldogs off the board for the entire first minute of the game and struck first blood when Grace Bender hit an open layup to kick off the scoring.  Great friends off the court and partners in crime on it, Grace Largent and Emma Schaefer responded with 5 quick Bulldog points, including a three ball from deep by Largent. From there, Jesse Simon scored the next 7 straight points, and the Bulldogs were off to the races from there, already up 12-2 with 3 minutes left in the first. The Bulldogs went on to lead 20-2 after the first quarter with three balls by Avery DeLisio and Addison Mullen in the mix.

The second quarter was a flash of Bulldog scoring again, as three pointers from Carli Nagy (2x) and Jesse Simon were wrapped around a bucket from Maddie Cerovac as they increased their lead to 31-6 with 3 minutes left in the opening half.

As hot as the Bulldogs were, the shot of the game if not the entire season came in the closing seconds of the first half with the Bulldogs up 37-6, when Amherst Comet Anna Phelan drained a shot from half court as the clock hit zero to signal the half.  Sure, the game may have been in hand, but that is the kind of shot that no one will ever forget, and perhaps they are in that situation again, and the game is tied, that is the kind of shot that will give her or a teammate of hers confidence to shoot it again.

Despite the great shot by Phelan, the Comets still trailed at the break 37-9.  The Bulldogs were red hot as 7 of them had scored, and 6 of them had drained atleast one shot from deep.

Avery DeLisio and Abby Broaddus exchanged three balls to start the second half.  The rest of the quarter was all Olmsted Falls as the Comets would not score again.  By the time the frame was done, the Bulldogs led 50-12 with more hot shooting from outside.  The Bulldogs went on to win 58-16.

  1. The comets game should of been called at halftime, don’t put those kids and the coach through a game that we have no chance of winning. We need to change conferences we have no business playing teams in the SWC… just a thought -,Go Comets ☄️

    1. Whatever happened to the old coach? He finally stroke out and keel over? No clue how Szavara got talked into this mess. The last time this team was any good was in 2020.
