Magnificat used a smothering defense and hot perimeter shooting to defeat Copley 60-19 in a shocking blowout Friday night. The Blue Streaks were led by Julia Hall with 21 while Sofia Wilson had 11 and Reese Roggenburk had 10. Incredibly, the game reached a running clock late into the third, or some of these point totals may have been bigger. Gemma Wichmann had 6 while Charlotte scored 3. It was Sophia LaPorte, Abigail Norman, Lizzie Godlewski and Lily Kuhlman finishing with 2 each while Erin Rosfelder had a point.
For Copley, Zooey Van Voorhis came in averaging double digit scoring per game, but tonight was held to just two foul shots in the first quarter and never scored again. The Indians only had 3 girls score tonight as Evelyn McKnight had 11 and Audrey Parker finished with 6.
The Blue Streaks began on a 7-0 run with a three from Hall, two fouls’ shots from Wichmann and a bucket from Wilson. A little bit later it was Hall nailing back-to-back threes to open the lead to 15-5. Shortly after that, Charlotte Pap joined the three-point party by nailing one and making it 18-5 with 2:02 to play. They went to take a 23-7 lead after one.
The second quarter started a bit slow with neither team making a field goal until 4:35 remained in the quarter. A Kuhlman layup made it 29-7. The first Copley basket cam at 2:55 from McKnight, but by this point the Blue Streaks held a 32-9 lead that they extended to 38-11 by the halftime break.
A 10-3 Blue Streak run extended the lead to 48-14 to start the second half and they never looked back as they went on to win 60-19.
